Still to be determined are budgets for seven hospitals, an and facilities such as cancer clinics and crippled Children's treatment centres. With these additional allotments, Ontario hospi tal budgets will total $2.13%4 billion in fiscal 1978/79, as announced by Mr. Timbrell February 7, 1978. As in the pre -vious year, this amount also provides funds for clinical teaching. "Most hospitals were advised of budget allocations for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 1978," said Mr. Timbrell. "As { indicated on February 7 of this year, increases in funds for operating budgets will continue to be limited in the next two years. Hospitals have already been informed that a similar rate of increase will be allocated in the 1979/80 fiscal year so that hospitals can plan now for management of their resour- ces. "In recent months | have emphasized all sectors of the health system must share responsibility in keeping health care costs from rising too steeply," continued Mr. Timbrell. Usually the first day of class, the teacher discusses with the students what 'they want from the course and modifies it accord- ingly. As well as this, the College usually offers a 40-hour, Obstetric Course making a total of 120 hours. A proposed schedule is now available with me which may or may not be feasible. Our intent is twofold. The Nursing tea- cher has other commitments and this fits her schedule and we are trying to finish the 80 hours before the end of May. With some evening and day classes if a student has to miss a class, the teacher will provide notes and she will be available for tutorial type assistance. A good segment of Nurses in Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Marathon are also interested in the 40-hour Obstetric Course. This could be offered in June or held off until Septenber de- : pending on scheduling there. Tuition costs are $1.00 per contact hour per student and - there must be a minimum of 12 students. However, 15 students are preferred to commence this program as she will be short of breaking even in any case as travel costs are high. This program has been-offered with great success to Nurses in both Geraldton and Nipigon in the last year and | am 1ook- ing forward to hold a similar successful program for Nurses in Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Marathon. The Nursing teacher will be in my office on Tuesday morning, March 28th and | would be too happy to arrange a meeting with any of the pro- spective students at this time. 2 If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. | have copies of the outline of the program and proposed time schedule.
