PAGE 12 TERRACE BAY NEWS The February meeting of the Schreiber Women's Institute fell on St. Valentine's Day, so several members read poems for the occasion and Mrs. Winnie Clemens read a story describing the differences in the way the day is celebrated in the schools now compared to earlier years,' Mrs. Anne Todesco presided and the motto for the meeting was "Only in Loving Do We Become Loveable", In current events the incoming raise in postage rates and recent medical achievements were discussed with other national news. Information was received from the Dept. of Agriculture and Food regarding short courses and Leadership Training Courses. This was placed on file for consideration at the next meeting. A lengthy letter from Mrs. Clarence Diamond, President of Federated Women's Institute of Ontario extended greetings and mentioned that annual fees had been raised to two dollars a year, as well as other aspects of Institute work, - The Schretber New Year baby party will be held at the March 4th meeting. ; The annual penny auction sale will be held in June in the town hall - members asked to contribute prizes and grocery items for the hamper which will be drawn at the same event. Eunice Bolan read an excellent paper on Public Relations and activities of the Institute within the past year. A hamper of groceries will be given to a family who recently lost their home in a fire, J : Margaret Spillane won the attendance prize. A visit was planned for the Birchwood Terrace Home in March and birthday card was sent. A social hour ended the mee ting. MR. DOMINIC DIANO CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Mr. Dominic Diano's 85th birthday on February 13th was celebrated by his family, with forty attending the party in his honour. A special surprise was when his son Frank and wife Nina flew down from Calgary for the occasion. There were twenty-one grandchildren and one great grandchild with messages from three other great grandchildren in | taly. ~The special cake was made and decorated by Rosetta Diano. The party was held in Mr, Diano's home and many gifts were presented. Mr. Diano came to Schreiber in 1948 from Italy. He is locally famous for his gardening skills. In addition to watching eagerly for the first robin to appear, he also has some carefully guarded weather signs concerning when to start planting.
