JANUARY I8, I978 ° 20¢ PER COPY PRR ep NEW FIRE CHIEF APPOINTED The regular meeting of the Council of the Township of Terrace Bay was held in the Council Chambers, Monday, January 9, I978, at 7 P.M. Present were Reeve C. Brassard, Councillors M. Hamilton, G. Ramsay and P. Romanuk, Clerk Co-ordinator W. Hanley and M. Simmer. Minutes of the December I2th regular meeting and December 28th special meeting were adopt- ed as read. At the special meeting the quotation for the supply of gasoline for municipal vehicles for I978 from Terrace Bay Enterprises was accepted. A resolution was passed naming Marjorie Hamilton as a Signing Officer for the Township of Terrace Bay effective December 30, I977. The twenty-two applications for the position of Clerk-Typist were reviewed and inter- biews for three were set up. Memberships for I978 were approved in Ontario Good Roads Association; Zone 9 Clerks'® and Treasurers' Association; Association of Municipalities of Ontario and O.M.E.A. and A.M.E.U. The resignation of V. Thorpe as Fire Chief effective December 3L, I977 was accepted with regret. A by-law appointing Ed Stachiw as Fire Chief effective January I, I978 was passed. Councillor Romanuk, Chairman of the Fire Dept., advised that R. Moher would be deputy Fire Chief. : Constable T. Tack if promoted to Constable Ist Class effective January I/78 and Constable = W. Fenton will attend Ontario Police College for probationary training course from Feb. 6 : to April I4, I978. The following attendance at conferences was authorized ~ Chief W.R. Zroback at a Zone Chiefs' Conference in Dryden Feb. I6 and I7; Fire Chief E. Stachiw at a Chiefs' Seminar in Thunder Bay Mar. 3I and April I; Councillor P. Romanuk at a Labour Relations Seminar in Thun- der Bay Feb. 24 & 25; Reeve C. Brassard, Councillor P. Romanuk and Electrical Supt. D. Ste- wart at the OMEA-AMEU Convention in Toronto Feb. 26 - 28. ; The following accounts were passed for payment: Township $27I,2I9.55; Hydro $50,555.II; Public Library $I,598.68; Recreation Committee $2I,919.94. Councillor Marjorie Hamilton will be the representative on the Health Unit for Terrace Bay/Schreiber for I978. Kenneth MacLeod was appointed a member of Council effective January I, I978 replacing M. Helmink. Miss Veronica Hermes was hired as a permanent Clerk-Typist for the Municipal Office. Reeve Brassard asked the members of Council to think of names of any citizens who might be interested in being a member of the Planning Board or to act as Municipal Council repres- entative on the Hospital Board. A letter from the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment indicated their desire to recruit a platoon in this area - Council will encourage this in any way possible. Permission was given to Minor Hockey to have a bottle drive January I4th.
