JANUARY 18, 1978 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 17 WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETING Mrs. Anne Todesco presided for the January meeting of the Schreiber Women's Institute, with members answering the roll call by expres- sing their opinions on New Year's resolutions. Motto for the meeting was "Grumbling spoils more homes than cooking". Christmas recipes were exchanged. In current events the increased local water rates, the building of the new arena, the un- favourable reports of post office employment and the petition regarding the burial of nuc- lear waste near Marathon were all discussed. Mrs. Eirene Harness was thanked for order- ing a box of apples for Birchwood Terrace for Christmas, where a visit will be paid later. Flowers were sent to Mrs. Agnes Bryson, long- time member, ill in hospital, and Christmas cards sent to shut-in members and ones in the Home. A renewal of the local Kinette calendar was placed on order. Winnie Clemens read a New Year's poem writ- ten by Mrs. Verna Maluski, former F.W.I.O. president. p "Mrs. Todesco reported on the meeting of the North District Board of Directors which she'd attended on December lst. Due to lack of funds each Branch was asked to contribute a small amount, with Schreiber to donate twenty-five dollars. Tentative plans were made to hold the 1978 District General meeting in the Lappe Church, to be hosted by the new Stepstone Br. Revised by-laws and increased fees will be dis- cussed and voted on at the next annual meeting. Mrs. Winnie Clemens read a paper on Citizen- ship and current events. Members planned the town's New Year baby par -ty for Feb. or March. Information was received on the officers' -conference in Waterloo in May and a letter ~ from the F.W.I.O. office about Branch fees. A lengthy report of the Provincial Board an- nounced the election of Mrs. Clarence Diamond of New Hamburg, Ont. as the new Provincial president. A donation from Mrs. Helen Stokes was grate- fully accepted. For their social hour there was a Christmas contest and exchange of gifts. NEW OFFICERS FOR LEGION AUXILIARY The new officers took over at the Jan. meet- ing of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal Cana- dian Legion, Br. 109. The slate being: Lor- raine Weaver, past president; Georgina Davis, president; Ruth Hiller, first vice; Christine Rena Ross, treasurer; Brenda Harper, Warden; Avila Richardson, asst. warden; Executive: Christine Dunham, Earline Johnson, Beth Mac- adam, Charlotte Miller, Wendy Martin, Jayce Richardson, Janice Paradis and Pam Nesbitt. The books were reported in order by Brenda Harper and Daryl Lynn Davis, auditors. Rean Ross, in presenting the financial statement, reported 15 new members were wel- comed last year - bringing the membership to 95, Jackie Sopel volunteered to convene the Sunday Social evenings for January. Mrs. Davis thanked those who had worked at the Children's Christmas party, the installa- tion dinner and the New Year's dance. Norm Norris, Recreation director was the guest speaker. Following the meeting the Christmas party, with exchange of gifts was enjoyed. SOCIAL: Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. M. J. McGrath were their daughter Patricia - now nursing in Sudbury General Hospital; Donna of Brampton - where she has just assumed new duty as Police Dispatcher with the Peel Regional Police and Mrs. N. Marie Woods and daughter Michelle of Thunder Bay. ; . Dunham, second vice; Venita McKenna, secretary; SCHREIBER RESIDENTS Due to the higher cost of providing service, Schreiber Hydro Electric Commis- sion finds it necessary to increase retail rates an average of 2.4% effective March },:1978, As a result of the better than expected operations of Ontario Hydro in 1977, this utility will be receiving an anti-infla=i tion discount on bulk power purchased from Ontario Hydro during 1978. The exact amount of this discount will not be known until early 1978, but it is currently es- timated that it will reduce our total revenue requirement by approximately 4.9%. Your bills during 1978 based on metered consumption will reflect this special anti -inflation discount. The net effect will be an overall average decrease in your bill of approximately 2.5%.
