JANUARY 5, 1978 "TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 9 _- MEETING HIGHLIGHTS: Cont'd from page 8 ... -the Board accepted the Family Life and Sex Education Curriculum K-8 as a pilot project in the Lake Superior Public School for 'the bal- ance of the 1977-78 school year. An evalua- tion will be conducted prior to May 15, 1978, with a view to a possible division-wide imple- mentation in the 1978-79 school year. Approval was granted to the Lake Superior High School for its 1978 Science Fair. The Inaugural Meeting of the Board will be held on Thursday, January 5, 1978, at the Marathon High School at 19 00. F.W. Hyder advised the Board that the ap- plication for renewal of the Community School Development Grant was approved in the amount of $6,000.00 F.W. Hyder gave an interim report dealing mainly with the Chief Executive Officers' Con- ference held in Toronto on December lst and ne Commission on Declining Enrolments (CODE) Conference held in Thunder Bay on November 17. The primary messages to School Boards arising from these conferences were: a) the necessity to exercise extreme caution in budget preparations and control of expendi- ftures as a result of the probability of declin -ing enrolments. As Provincial grants are { based on average daily enrolment, any drop in "enrolment is adversely reflected in the amount of grant money available. b) the necessity for effective communication and interaction with the general public and the necessity for the Board to demonstrate its _ accountability to the ratepayers for its expen -diture of the Educational dollar. The Ministry of Education's policy which is » also consistent with the need for accountabil- = ity in the area of Provincial and Regional Re- | views, will be continued in 1978. To date in 1977, the following reviews have been conduct- Ved: circular 14, Early School Leaving, Grade 13 History, Physical Education, Formative Years, H.S.l1l, Enrolment, Transportation of Pupils.
