PAGE 20 TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 23, 1977 LEGION BR. 109 REMEMBRANCE DAY The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, Schreiber, held it's regular parade to the cen- otaph on November llth, Remembrance Day. Fred Gould of Terrace Bay was the bugler and] fifteen wreaths were placed by various local associations - the Legion and it's Ladies Aux- iliary, Branch 109; Provincial Motherhood of Canada; C.P. Rail; Holy Angels School; Township of Schreiber; Kinsmen Club; Women's Institute; Costa's Foodateria; L.C.B.O.; Spadoni Bros. Garage Division; Schreiber Foodmarket; Catholic Women's League; Schreiber Hydro and the only personal one, for Jim Richardson, placed by "his sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack Richardson. Father F.J. Meyer, Legion Padre, gave the address. Part of his address was "Through the cenotaph service each year, we are saying sil- ently 'Thank you' to the countless Canadians who gave their lives in defence of freedom, not to glorify 'war but to reaffirm our hope in the struggle for peace." He then recited part. of the immortal poem 'In Flanders Fields'. At the head table during the banquet held in the evening were: Bill Collinson M.C.; offic -ers and their wives and husbands of the Legion and Auxiliary; Major A.E. Mailey of the Salva- tion Army with his son Jeff of Thunder Bay. Grace was said by Father Meyer. The two minute's silence for fallen comrades was observed and the names of recently deceased comrades read - Bob Riley, Edmond Nicol, Tommy Bolan, Lloyd Small and Leonard Hiller. Following the regular toasts, Shirley McGre- gor McCuaig sang "In Flanders Field" accompan- ied by her mother, Inez McCuaig. Later in the evening she also sang "The Isle of Innisfree". A special welcome was given to Tommy Whitton} Vimmy Veteran, who recently celebrated his 83rd birthday. Reeve H.J. McParland commented on the renov- ations to the Legion. Major A.E. Mailey, the guest speaker, dwelt on the subject that people are not -our enemies regardless of their nationality or their color. The world is now a global village, so, we must think of others as entitled to a decent life, such as we enjoy. Our enemy is in our own sel- fish, greedy natures. We are born with the spiritual misuse of power. Georgina Davis, auxiliary president, said they had spent five thousand dollars on renov- ating the Club. She then presented three thous --and dollard from the auxiliary to Borden Ross, president of the Branch, from the auxiliary. Mr. Ross, after thanking the auxiliary most warmly, said many alterations and improvements had been made this year, and he'd really had " Crafts Organization for this area. the support of a good executive. He then pre- sented Jim Crook with his past president pin and Gerry Nicol with his past president pin and bar. : An enthusiastic round of applause was given to the members of the Anglican Church Women who had catered for the dinner. The evening ended with a dance. CRAFT ORGANIZATION: Several interested groups from Schreiber and Terrace Bay met on Nov. 8 in the Schreiber High School library to discuss a proposed Frank and Donna Holder of Schreiber, NACC representa- tives, arranged the meeting. Marion Strawsson of Thunder Bay, gave a slide presentation and a brief outline on NACC (Northwestern Association of Community Crafts) OCC (Ontario Crafts Council) and WCO (World Craft Organization). The majority attending the meeting did not want an executive or more meetings than pro- grams. They felt an ad hoc committee could deal with displays, seminars and workshops, with the majority of time spent on craft work. Each person may work on their own interest. - with more than one craft going on during each session. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Nov- ember 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. in the Terrace Bay High School Home Economics room. All persons from all points of the area are urged to attend.
