NOVEMBER 9, 1977 TERRACE BAY NEWS (=) (HOSPTAL OTE BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS: The regular Hospital Board Meeting for October took place on the 4th, 1977 at the Administration Office - Birchwood Terrace. ' Ten members were present. $288,250.00 invested). a Rena McAdam, Vice-Chairman called the meet=~ ing to order. It was moved and seconded that the Minutes of the last regular Board Meeting be accepted as circulated. Carried. The Vice-Chairman requested that as many Board Members as possible attend the Employee Relations Workshop to be conducted by the Ont- ario Hospital Association on October 6, 1977, at Birchwood Terrace in Terrace Bay. It was moved and seconded that we renew the Building Fund Deposit maturing on October 11th, 1977 in the amount of $30,000.00 for a period of one year with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Terrace Bay. (We have a total of Carried. It was moved and seconded that three (3) delegates be sent to the Ontario Hospital Assoc -iation Annual Convention to be held November 7th, 8th and 9th in Teronto. Rena McAdam, Margaret Puttock and Paul Mathews were delegates to the District Hospital "Council #12, held September 29th and 30th at the Airlane Motor Hotel - Thunder Bay. Mrs. McAdam attended the session on Financial Manage ~Year Course. October 12th. "ments Mr. Mathews went to the meeting on ; Standards of Nursing Practice. Mrs. Puttock attended the session on Laundry and Linens. On Friday, September 30th the delegates attend- 4+ 8d the General Session - Legal Aspects of Health Care given by Mr. Rod G. Walsh along 'with a panel. Write-ups of the General Session rare being circulated to all Board members. It was moved and seconded that all Committee " Reports be accepted as submitted. Carried. The Accounts Payable plus Net Payroll for the month of August 1977, totalling $54,137.03 were accepted for payment. There was a short discussian regarding the hiring of Two-Year Nursing Graduates. It has "been found that these graduates have the theor- -ietical knowledge of the Nursing textbooks hut they lack clinical experience to implement the powledge gained. As a result of this discus- "sion the Board asked Mr. Mathew to write a letter to the Ministry of Health, Nursing "oouncils, Schools and to Mr. R. Alan Hay - Executive Director of the Ontario Hospital Association expressing our concern of the Two (We have received a letter from Mr. Hay in answer to Mr. Mathew's letter of Mr. Hay stated they were aware of the lack of clinical training and were en- deavoring to correct the situation. Mr. Hay thanked Mr. Mathew for his letter): Dr. Croll - Chief of Staff - attended a meeting in Marathon on September 26th, 1977, with the Marathon Medical Staff to discuss the topic "Medical Audit". Dr. Croll explain- ed that in order to do a Medical Audit, the Medical Staff must first choose a topic within the medical profession and then proceed to re- view and discuss this topic carefully. The Medical staff from Manitouwadge, Marathon and Terrace Bay plan to meet sometime in December 1977 to organize a Medical Audit Committee. The Meeting adjourned at 9:41 p.m. Public Relations McCausland Hospital Board HOSPITAL BUILDING FUND: The Board of Governors of the McCausland Hospital gratefully acknowledge the following contributions to the building fund: In Memoriam $41.00 Payroll deductions $260.50 Interest on term deposits and savings account $7,660.44 Membership fees for 1978 - $10.00 Our "Pat-on-the-back" for October goes" to the gentlemen of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 - Schreiber who instead of 'pocket- ing their "bar tab" change put it in a jar on | the bar. When full - the jar contained $45.00 and was passed on to the Hospital Building Fund. Our thanks - Gentlemen! Bank balance as of October 31, 1977 totals $315,694.18. We are now accepting membership for the year 1978, in the Hospital Corporation. For those who do not have a Life Membership, year- ly memberships are $5.00 'per person. This gives you the right to attend the Annual Meet- ing of the McCausland Hospital Corporation and also gives you the right to vote at the meeting. When going over our Life Membership lists we noticed many husbands have a life member- ship ($100.00 paid to the building fund with- in the calendar year) but the wife does not. How about it gentlemen ~ this would make a great Christmas gift for the wife who has everything - but not a' life membership in the McCausland Hospital Corporation!
