On Saturday, August 6th, 1977 at high noon six sailboats" from the communities of Schreiber and Terrace Bay gallantly made there way from Rossport harbour to a shoal three miles across Pays Plat Bay known tc all sailors as Barwis Rock and all managed to make it back to Rossport afloat. This was the second time this event was held and was a huge success. The theme be- hind this race is not to challenge for the America's cup but to help promote the sport of sailing in North Shore. The co-sponsors and organizers of the event were Mr. Bill Megraw Sr. and Mr. Charlie Wise of Terrace Bay. It was difficult to sort out the differ- ent classes of boats in the race, since out of the fleet of six, no two were alike. If anybody was keeping: score at the finish were: Skippers Bill Megraw, followed by Don Beno, Doug Stefur- ak, Dr. Wilkes, Mike Reid and Denis Connel- "Ve. The Barwis Memorial trophy was later pres- ented to Mike Reid for his skill at naviga- tion and seamanship. Following the race a cookout was held at Wardrope: Park in Rossport.
