Whether for business or pleasure, each year millions of dollars are spent by Ontario con- sumers for transportation and accommodation in the course of travels around the globe. Wheth -er they travel singly or in groups almost all of them, at one time or another, rely on the services of a travel agent or wholesaler who puts together the travel package and makes the arrangements for worry-free journeys. The Ontario Government now has a law to protect the monetary. interests of Ontario tra- vellers. The Travel Industry Act is designed to ensure that travel sellers in Ontario are responsible for delivering the travel services they sell. WHAT THE ACT DOES: The interests of consumers purchasing tra- vel services in Ontario are protected farough a four-point program that: 1. Identifies through registration bonafide travel agents and wholesalers. 2. Makes the travel agent or wholesaler res- ponsible for money the consumer has paid. 3. Provides compensation for the consumer ~ who has made payment for travel services and not received the services contracted for. 4. Makes all travel agents and travel whole- salers responsible for the truth of their ad- vertising.
