TERRACE BAY NEWS - MARCH 30, 1977 25 YEARS AGO - MARCH 27, 1952 ' NORTH SHORE BADMINTON LEAGUE PLAYERS DOMINATE LAKEHEAD OPEN: Mrs, Wilson of the lakehead defeated Helen Scott, Terrace Bay, 11-6, 5-11 and 11-2 to teke the Women's Singles Chempionship and prevented a clean sweep by the towns of Terrace Bay and Schreiber. of Schreiber were the top players in the Men's events, old defeated Dick Wilson of the Lekehead for the Men's Sin- gles, Harold and Ernie then teamed up and walked away with the Men's Doubles Championship. Ernie and Helen Darcy of Schreiber won the Mixed Doubles events, Dot Dalzell and Helen Scott managed to win by taking the Ladies' Doubles Championships. It is of interest to note that out of over 60 contestants from the district, the eleven players from Schreiber and Terrace mansged to bring back 7 of the 8 trophies. The presentation was made in Toronto on March 25th. The occasion was the Lond Annual Meeting of the Onterio Pulp and Paper Makers! Safety Association, The award went to the Terrace Bay mill as winner of the Ontario-wide Accident Prevention Compeation for 1956 amoung Class "A" pulp and peper mills (those working more than 50,000 men hours per month).
