Like ole man river, the Lakehead School of Hockey just keeps rolling right along. Heading | into its Ninth season of operation, the School ! remains one of the oldest and finest institua- 8 3 tions for the teaching of young, hopeful hoc- key talent. A new rink, new faces, and new program will give the School added spice. The new loca- A tion is the Port Arthur Arena. Recently a new floor was added, one geared for the use of summer ice. It is in the centre of town, J surrounded by numerous playing fields for use _ during off-ice activities. Five new instruc- tors are with the School and with the revising of the on-ice program, both old applicants and 'those attending the School for the first, will A benefit. - Two, two-week sessions are scheduled. The first begins July 25 running to August 6 and August 8 to 20 at the Port Arthur Arena in Thunder Bay, Ontario. a: Returning to the School for their eighth 3 | CN seasons are Max Mekilok, former pro scoring champion and successful junior hockey coach, . and Barton Bradley. Bradley, chief western 8 | scout for Boston of the NHL, is one of the \ few men to play on Memorial, Allan and World Championship teams. Dave Siciliano is back for his fifth season. Two years ago Dave $s coached Thunder Bay Twins to the Allan Cup. He has taught in Europe and is now head coach with Lakehead University. Larry Krawchuk and * - Dan Walter are back for their fourth season. These two college grads know how to teach the game of hockey. Ab Slivinski and Mike Tinker «. Mithrush, two popular instructors, head into their season. Slivinski is a University of North Dakota grad who starred in both hockey * and football and is Thunder Bay's most succes- sful high school coach in both of these sports. Mithrush has played hockey for some 30 years *- and is a University of Minnesota at Duluth grad who is a high school physical education teacher as are Krawchuk, Walter and Slivinski. ® < New to the School is Mike Madik, Ken Clific .ton, Dave Fitzpatrick, Lee Fogolin senior and ; junior and Ian MacRae. Masik is a prize catchi «| He is a graduate of University of North Dakota. His thesis at U of ND was on power skating and he operated his own power skating school at Toa Grank Forks, N.D. He spent three weeks .in | Russia with Philadelphia coach Fred Shero and the two specialized in hockey.
