The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #223, Terrace Bay were the host Branch for the Dis- trict #8 Curling Playdowns held the weekend of January 28 - 30. Friday evening a welcome comradeship time was held in the Legion Hall, where old and new aquaintances were made. On Saturday, January 29th, the registration and curling schedule were finalized under the capable handling of Howard Solly, District #8 4, Curling Chairman and his assistant, David =H A Peplinskie. Lakehead M University SPRING & SUMMER COURSES Dr. K. The first round was played early Saturday morning with Zone #82, Marathon (Bill Pascoe- Skip, Arnie Allan - Third, Joe Kolotylo-Se- cond, Frank Lieben-Lead) against Zone #84 Kakabeka (Art Green-Skip, Rex Jackson-Third, Al Green - Second,Ralph Thatcher - Lead). Kakabeka defeated Marathon 10 to 2. Zone #83 Thunder Bay (Larry Pineau ~- Skip, Bob Medwid - Third, David Lafroy - Second, Bill Tebenham - Lead, Gordon Kyle attended as Spare) against Zone #81 Geraldton (Don Smith - Skip, Earle Stone - Third, Herb Pile - Second, Herb Byerley - Lead, Ken Arnott at- tended as Spare. Geraldton defeated Thunder Bay 10 to 8. The Second round Saturday afternoon saw the tables turned with Geraldton again being the winners beating Marathon 11 - 6 and Thunder Bay beating Kakabeka 12 - 3. The out of town visitors and local specta- tors filled the curling club for these games, 1 and during the afternoon Mrs. Anne Latour opened her home to the ladies. She and Mrs. Dene Clancy, co-hostess, held a wine and cheese party from 2 - 4 p.m. This was enjoyed by everyone.
