PAGE 8 TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 5, 1977 WOMEN'S INSTITUTE DECEMBER MEETING Members of the Women's Institute brought Christmas cards to their December meetihg to be sent to older, and shut-in citizens. The motto for the meeting was "Show our love to others, as it' is free to give" Members agreed to send a box of apples to Birchwood Terrace as a Christmas gift and pay a group visit after New Year's. Correspondence was read from The Bazaar and Novelty Company, Canadian Save the Child- rens Fund and the Consumer Contact. Mrs. Winnie Campbell stated the $25.00 draw will be made at the January meeting. Mrs. Winnie Clemens, citizenship convener, read a paper on the life and service of Miss Ethel Chapman, the well-known Canadian 'author, who had written many books and articles for farm magazines and Women's Institute periodi- cals. She had received various honours and medals for her contributions to the welfare of farm people as well as thé University of Guelph where she was a Board member. Mrs. Anne Todesco, who presided for the meeting, gave an interesting report of the District Directors Meeting in Thunder Bay. The District Meeting of Thunder Bay North will be held in Schreiber on May 18th and prelimin- ary plans for this event were discussed. At the Tuesday, January llth meeting, mem- bers will exchange gifts and enjoy a pot luck supper at 5:00 p.m.. In addition to members, an invitations will be extended to husbands of members and secretaries of other organiza- tions. The attendance prize was won by Mrs. Annie Niemi and lunch was served by Mrs. Clemens and Mrs. Mavis Slater. { CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE DECEMBER MEETING ~ Lorette McParland presided for the regular December meeting of the Catholic Women's Lea- gue with Rita McGrath giving a special Christ- mas reading. Marion Henri read minutes of past regular and executive meeting, and Lorleen Blais read several letters of appreciation for cards and . a special letter from the family in India which has been sponsored for some years by the Schreiber C.W.L. A $500.00 donation was made to the Parish Building Fund Maintenance Fund. Mrs. McParland asked as many members as .- a \ * 8 - 'possible to accompany her to the C.W.L. Chris -mas gift giving to Birchwood Terrace. . It was decided to forego a Resting in Jan- 8 uary. Five copies of T.V. Ratings for Children was placed on order. There was a discussion of possibly having a tea and bake sale on March 17th. Following the meeting; the Christmas party was held with exchange of gifts, a carol sing- ing and unexpected presence of Santa.
