Attendance prize was won by Mrs. Eirene Harness. 7 Following the next meeting there will be a "Musical White Elephant". Each member to bring two wrapped parcels with price marked thereon. A Penny Auction was conducted by Georgina Davis and Beth Macadam and a Pot Luck lunch was enjoyed by all. SCHREIBER TOWN TOPICS BOB TURNER: R.W. (Bob) Turner, who has worked on Schreiber Division, CP-Rail, since April I947 and in the Schreiber station since I953, has been transferred to Montreal as Operations Superviser in the Power Bureau, effective November Ist. Mr. Turner has been Night Chief Despatcher here. The Turners have been entertained at sever- al occasions - the congreation of St. John's Anglican Church held a social evening in their honour in tribute to their support and woxk in the church, and presented Mrs. Turner with a Beleek china vase. At the annual dinner for the executive of 'the local Credit Union, Mr. Turner was pre- sented with a farewell gift in tribute to his work with the association, director, etc, and now resigning the presidency, due to his trans -fer. The Wednesday Night Art Group, who meet informally, to paint and visit, presented Mrs. Turner (Jackie) with a charm for her bracelet a tiny palette and brush. A group of six couples paid a surprise visit to the Turner home bringing with them a dinner and on the group's behalf Alex Gordon presented a crystal cream and sugar to Mrs. Turner, his farewell speech including many amusing references to past good times when the crowd had been together, and wished them happiness in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Clemens have returned from their vacation spent visiting relatives and friends in Wiarton and Owen Sound. Annette and Bill Campbell attended their § first Business and De- sign School of Flowers put on by F.T.F. unit 12F in the Water Tower - Sault Ste. Marie this fall. The Camp-- purchased Mary's Flower Shop in Schrei- March 15, but Annette has been working with Mary since January last. Mary Martinsen established the first Flower Shop along the North Shore in Schreiber in bell's ber on November, 1961 and will continue to work with Annette until Mr. Martinsen retires in Septem- ber 1977 from the Ministry of Transportation and Communication, Terrace Bay. Annette and Bill are both natives of Schreiber. " FIRE BRIGADE BALL i ------------ 7 3 t_-- The Halloween masquerade dance held annually by the Schreiber Fire Brigade was an overwhelm- ing success, again, with people having to be turned away for two hours, after the high schoo auditorium was filled. The Brigade, numbers twenty members with Peter Doig as their Chief, and although they are officially known by a more dignified name they will always, with affection and respect be known as the Fire Brigade, their original name. : The funds raised at their annual dance are used to replace some equipment and purchase other new pieces; augmenting their grant from the town. By unspoken agreement all costumes must be homemade to win a prize. - The costume judges this year were Joe King, Schreiber; Chal McCuaig, Atikokan and Rod Lar- sen, Nipigon, awarding prizes as follows: First prize - Goldilocks and the Three Bears - Marion Henri, Irma Armstrong, Sheila Parent and Nancy Armstrong. Second prize - "Raid" and the thirteen bugs he was pursuing. Third prize - the Purple Penguins - Doris Gauthier and Isabelle Perras. Honorable Mention was given to top clown Teresa Ray, Christmas tree- Brenda Birch, Lurleen Blais and Mary Anderson, and Raggedy Ann and Andy who did not unmask.
