NOVEMBER 3, 1976 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 SCHREIBER WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: At their October Meeting of the Schreiber Women's Institute, members answered the roll call by telling about an early Thanksgiving in their lives. 4 : Motto was "The mask you wear on Halloween is never seen the rest of the year" Mrs. Anne Todesco presided for the meeting and Mrs. Eirene Harness acted as secretary- treasurer. Instead of ordering the usual wreath for Remembrance Day Services, it was agreed to send a donation towards one large wreath and have the Institute name placed on it. A card and flowers were sent to a member of long standing, Mrs. Nettie Thrower, a patient in hospital. ay Mrs. Annie Niemi presented an interesting paper on Family and Consumer Affairs. She told of dangers of mixing chlorine bleach with other household cleaners such as ammonia, lye, rust remover, vinegar, oven cleaner and: toilet bowl cleaners. Guest speaker, Mrs. Jan McEwen, Public Health Nurse spoke briefly on how the Public 'Health Service can assist parents and children in a community to maintain good health. Mrs. Harness read the report of the Area Convention held in Thunder Bay, as prepared by Mrs. W. Clemens who was a delegate. Members decided to have a bakeless bake sale with the money turned in to the November meeting. Mrs..J. Campbell will also prepare tickets for a Christmas draw of $25. Mrs. 'Niemi will be in charge of purchasing new locks for the cupboards. Mrs. Campbell gave a Thanksgiving reading before lunch was served. A penny auction was planned for the next meeting. SCHREIBER PARKS AND RECREATION NEWS The Schreiber Arena is hoped to be in opera- tion by the first of December. If there are any organizations or persons wishing to rent ice time at the Arena, please contact Marlene Doig at 824-2018. The fee for the 1976-77 season are as follows: Children 50¢; Studénts 75¢; Adults $1.00. Local Schools - nd charge; Minor Hockey $2.00 per hour; Figure Skating $2.00 per hour. Junior Hockey 60-40% of gate re- ceipts. In town organizations = $I0,00 per hour Out-of-town organizations - $I5.00 per hour. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN : Mrs. Beth Macadam presided for the Octob- er meeting of the Schreiber United Church Women. She welcomed Mrs. Scott of Winnipeg as a guest who had for sale a number of cook books which were compiled by her own church group. The devotional had the Thanksgiving theme with Myra Holmes reading the Scripture. Miss Gwen Hadley presented the financial report. The annual fall fair had been a successful venture and thanks were extended to all members who had donated and worked. The allocation parcel of good used clothing and a baby's layette were sent to a mission at Deer Lake in Northern Ontario. Members agreed to cater to the Legion banquet in November and Mrs. Macadam will convene this affair. Mrs. Margaret Smith reported having sent many get well and sym- pathy cards to people in the community. Mrs. N. Fummerton gave an account of the Presbytery Zone Meeting at Fort Frances. Rev. Ed Prinselaar had been the main speaker at the meeting. ' The Christmas bazaar on December 4th was discussed and it was decided to order a: draw prize and two kits of candles. Members will sew aprons and more material or print is needed. : Least Coin was collected. Prizes for Halloween contests were won by Anne Etches and Norma Fummerton. Attendance prizes were won by Margaret Smith and Christine Morris. Hostesses at the November meeting will be Marg Gerow, Edith Clemens and Margaret Smith. RUBY REBEKAH LODGE : Mrs. Georgina Davis, N.G. and Mrs. Winnie Clemens, acting V.G. presided for the regu- lar meeting on Wednesday, October 27th. Mrs. Davis reported get well cards sent to-Mesdames Lily Legault, Lillian MacDonald and Victoria Winters.
