The following is a progress note on the New Hospital Construction. Yes, we are going to build a new hospital. Ours was not among the projects cancelled by the Ministry of Health because of financial restraints. However, because of these restraints, the Ministry can- not, as yet, tell us when we can begin construction. We will not be given the "go-ahead" until the Ministry has its share of the money in hand. ; To date, some of the areas, we have had approved are - 23 beds - 6 of these for chronic patients; a larger Emergency unit; a Physio~- therapy department; X-Ray; Laboratory; Kitchen and Cafeteria; Nursing unit; Stores (supplies) department; Operating Room; Labour and Delivery - Rooms; and the Hospital Auxiliary will have space of its own. Although it seems a "snails - pace" to us, the Ministry assures us that we have moved very quickly in our planning - money is the big holdup. We want to be ready to start the moment their money is avail- able. That means that our share (1/6) must be right there - we don't want a further holdup while the Ministry tells us to get our share collected. So keep the pledges and donations coming in - they are vital, and one day (soon we hope!) you will be able to say with pride - "I helped build that!"
