It was agreed to present the Bride's Book which has been compiled by the local institute members to Mrs. Ted Speziale. Mrs. Todesco gave an interesting account of the District Board Meeting held 'recently in Thunder Bay. 4 Preliminary plans were discussed for the district meeting to be held in May in Schreiber. Enlarged pictures of the Queen and of Mrs. Adelaide Hoodless, founder of the W.I. were placed on order. Mrs. Wesley Clemens gave an interesting re- port on education progress in Schreiber, be- ginning with the first little "bunkhouse" school, which Mrs. Russell McBride, nee Fleur- ette Bourguignon, is believed to be the only student attending it, still: living in Schrei- by Joan Macadam (Mrs. John Radcliffe Branch) in 1946 for the school paper. Also mentioned was the increasing cost of education, despite the decrease in enrollment. A letter of appreciation, for scholarships presented was received from Lake Superior Pub- lic School, and a letter from McCausland Hos- pital Board asking for a donation was read. The apron draw was won by Mrs. Niemi. A brochure on Consumers Contact received was placed on file for further consideration. Lunch was served by the executive. MRS. DAVIS ATTENDS PEACE GARDENS Mrs. Georgina Davis, first vice president, presided for the regular September meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109. Minutes of the last meeting and the: treasur- er's report were adopted as read by Mrs. Bea 'McCuaig and Mrs. Rena Ross. Mrs. McCuaig read a lengthy sick and visit- ing report sent by Mrs. Jean Crook. Mrs. Ross reported the annual field day had been most successful, and Mrs. Avila Richardson reported the draw for the day had been won by Lawrence Madge. Mrs. Davis reported attending the impressive opening ceremonies at the Peace Gardens, which is supported by the Legions Sports Foundation and open to all young athletes in Northwestern Ontario. s Requests were sent to all groups in town who cater for dinners to submit prices for providing the Legions annual memorial banquet on Nov. 11. Senior Citizens. Joe Campbell, Bern Jacomb and Eunice Bolan were named as nominating committee to secure officers for the coming year. Mrs. Winnie Campbell will replace Mrs. Bea= trice McCuaig as secretary for the balance of the year. The minutes of the August meeting and the treasurers report were adopted as read by Mrs. McCuaig and W.T. Wallace. Tommy and Bern Whent, of Florida, but still members of the Chimo Club, were welcomed as visitors. It was agreed to have the Christmas party combined with the Club's birthday celebration. Alice Sparkes reported ordering new drapes for the club room. Bern Jacomb reported sending many cards for various occasions. There were twnety-seven attending the meet ing and it was decided to make the next one a Halloween party, with each member to bring a well wrapped bundle of assorted clothing to be won in a draw and worn by the unfortunate win- ner during the evening. Mrs. Wallace gave a brief review of events during the past months - attending a church service in a group, enjoying an afternoon end- ing with a barbecue at Birchwood Terrace and spending an afternoon sightseeing in Old Fort William. . 3 It was agreed to present members leaving the district with farewell gifts. The Christmas bazaar and tea with a bake sale was planned for December 11. There will be a potluck lunch for the Dec- ember meeting. Renovations will shortly begin in the craft room in the upstairs of the Club.
