C.N.E. EXHIBIT = fl The forest fire problem in Northern Ont- ario is the topic of the vivid Ministry of Natural® Resources exhibit at this year's Canadian National Exhibition. The exhibit is situated on the ground' floor 'of the East Annex of the Coliseum. The behind-the-scenes story is téld of how Ontario's approximately 2,000 forest fires are brought under control each year. Because the annual fire season lasts until dated daily, which will give a status report the fire crews and equipment deployed to fight] outbreaks. Exhibit staff will include veter-- an fire control officers who will give regul- ar fire briefings as well as answer questions. A walk through a just-burned forest with examples of how wildlife, plants and trees recover from. .the effects of a fire is another unusual display. In addition, various specimens of the Min- istry of Natural Resources' exhibit animals and birds are shown, supported by information about the beneficial as well as damaging ef- fects of forest fires on their survival. : 'Special reference is made to this year's severe outbreak of fires in the North during May and June. What i ; worse", said Hay, "is that most hospitals are finding they will have less money for ser ~vices and staff than the Ministry had pre- viously led them to expect. : "Earlier this year", said Hay, "hospitals were told they would be permitted increases over 1975 equivalent to 8% more for employee costs and 10% more for all other supplies and services.
