MAY 5, 1976 HOMES FOR THE AGED: Cont'd Mr. Daneff then took over the meeting and stated that he was honoured to be appointed Chairman and looked forward to an active year. Highlights of the meeting were the passing for payment of the March, 1976 accounts for both Homes totalling $114,391.50. The Administrator was authorized to adver- tise for removal of the garage compound on Lakeview Drive. The Board members felt that since the garage is not being used it will shortly become a maintenance problem and, therefore, thought it would be better to have it removed from the area. Mr. Vibert was also authorized to arrange for the sale of furnish- ings that had been released by the Director. Monies from the sale will go the Treasurer of Ontario. Four staff members and two Board members were authorized to attend the Northwestern Re- gional Conference at Kenora May 12th to 14th, 1976. The conference this year will be limit- ed to a one and a half day session to reduce costs. The Board also reviewed preliminary plans for changes to be made in the eastern wing of the Birchwood Terrace Home. Areas for craft activities and allied offices are in- volved. Further, the Board decided not to change the location of the air exchange unit which is situated in the kitchen because of the costs involved. The Board was notified that the Extended Care rate was changed as of April 1st, 1976 by $2.00 and the residents portion which was pre- viously $6.15 is now $7.40 per day. This.ef- fects the thirty-four extended care beds at Pinewood Court. The Board approved an eight per cent wage increase to all employees retroactive to Jan. 1st, 1976. This increase will be reviewed with employees at a later date. Presently this is the limit that the Ministry will agree to in a wage increase. During intermission the Board joined the residents at Birchwood Terrace in the lounge for wine and cheese. by Bev Young, : Northern Affairs.
