Collins of the Ministry of Community and Social Services gave a talk on the District . of Thunder Bay's "Working Group" which has two mandates; - point planning between Government and non-Government services to develop a com- prehensive plan for this District and to re- view and develop proposals for new services for the mentally retarded and to make recom- mendations to Government. Mr. Bill Saya, Regional 'Advisor of the OAMR gave a speech on his occupation and on the or- ganization as a whole, how the mentally retard- ed are being brought out into the open and given places in communities and being treated like people. He stated that preventative mea- sures can be taken and prevention is something that young people should be made aware of and given information on this subject. Membership PX in local clubs must be a choice for the future. Time and explanation of mentally retarded ac- tivity is now necessary. A question and ans- period followed. Mrs. Rita Allan introduced the guest speak- er, Ms. Gail Conrad, Principal of the Caroline McMorland School in Marathon who gave a brief history of the school, activities and home life, the curriculum of the students and res- ponsibilities held by each student and how they are trained to lead near normal lives by doing errands, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. everything we take for granted. She also thanked all the associations for their help in making all this possible and also protecting the rights of the retarded.
