The general hour -ly rate currently at $2.40 per hour has in- creased to $2.65. The Ontario Employment Standards Act ap- plies to employees and employers in the Pro- vince of Ontario. It does not apply to per- sons employed in industries under the juris- diction of the federal govt. such as post office, railways, banks, grain elevators, shipping companies, radio & television stat- ions, or policemen employed by a municipality. An employee shall not be required to work more than eight hours per day or forty-eight hours per week, however, a workday up to twelve hours could be approved by the direc- tor where the employer and employees jointly agree. Any employer wishing employees to work more than eight hours per day or forty- eight hours per week must apply to the Dir- ector of the Employment Standards Branch of the Ministry of Labour for a permit. Although an employer has a permit allowing extra hours an employee cannot be required to work over eight hours in. a day or forty-eight hours in a week without the consent of the employee, his agent, except in the case of an emergency. A permit allowing extra hours does not re- lieve the employer from. the requirement to pay as required by the Act. Overtime pay is required to be paid to an employee who works after forty-four hours in a week. Thank you notes were received from Mr. Mrs. G. Waverick and the Brassard Family. Under new business accounts passed for pay- ment were: Township $I97,50I.42; Hydro $34, 037.63; Library $940.7I and Recreation $2I, 549.31. A motion was _passed to prepare a by-law re sub-division agreement with Kimberly-Clark. A by-law to establish Community Recreation Centres was passed. y A discussion was held on the condition of the Recreation Centre roof. A temporary repair will be done. Councillor Brassard reported the emission tests on the tractor at the Recreation Centre proved acceptable. and
