Hanley, Guidance Counsellor, and Mr. D. Cooper, Math. Department Head, meet with Mr. B. Peters, Counsellor at St. Martin Separate School to outline program options available for graduating Elementary School Students. Over the past week Secondary School teach- ers have been making frequent visits to the Grade 8 classrooms to give students a better understanding of the many courses offered in High School. DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY ~ BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING At the regular meeting of the Board of Education held on February 16, I976 the foll- owing matters were of interest and were dealt with: . The Rent Control which has now been estab- lished has not yet been able to confirm wheth- er or not the rents for the houses and apart- ment buildings owned by this Board come under Bill 20 or not. There is a great need for additional space in the Industrial Arts Shop in Manitouwadge High School. The Board has already made a proposal to the Ministry for an extension to that shop but, because of the grant restraints being imposed, approval has not yet been re- ceived from the Ministry of Education. A Work-Study Symposium on Professional Dev- elopment, which is being run by O.I.S.E. in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, is being held in Thunder Bay on April IIth - I4th and will be attended by the Director and one Principal. . ; The Architect, Mr. R. J. Graham, reported in a letter that the deficiencies at Marathon Public School were being looked after satis--- factorily. An excellent and valid Night School Program is being run in the communities of Mani touwadge, Marathon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay. "Thirty courses are currently being run catering to II50 students in these communities. Before Apartment Building No. 2 in Manit- ouwadge can be sold, additional land adjacent to the building must be acquired by the Board in order to comply with the zoning By-Laws . The Board expressed its sympathy for the family of Mr. Glenn Welton. Mr. Welton was Vice-Principal in Marathon Public School and a teacher there since I949. Cont'dipage 2rd
