FEBRUARY 25, 1976 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 HIGH SCHOOL CURLING NEWS Saturday, February 21st wound up the Round Robin play for the High School curling. Our congratulations go to Julie Randa's rink of Trisha Paukstys, Patty Dakin and Carol Weberg, who came through undefeated. Runner up is the Annie Regis rink of Annie, Lori McBride, Del- ena Almos and Ann Crockford who completed the round with two losses. There will be no:High School curling on Saturday, February 28th due to Legion curling. WINTER CARNIVAL MEETING A Winter Carnival Meeting was held in the large meeting room of the Recreation Centre on Wednesday, February 18 with Claire Roen pre- siding. Many new ideas have been received by the committees. : A Klondike Morning has been planned but no definite area has been designated to date. The L.A. to the Community Church will be serv- ing a hot lunch in conjunction with this event. Anyone interested in helping with the child- ren's or adult's winter sports in the Klondike morning please feel free to contact David Luxmore. The Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club have also arranged their carnival during the Winter Carnival. : Once again, the teachers from the Lake Sup- erior Public School and St. Martin School will organize and run the children's ice races and fancy dress parade on March 11. The Terrace Bay Art Club have agreed to make eight posters for advertising the Carni- val in Terrace Bay and Schreiber. The L.A. to the McCausland Hospital will host an Arts and Craft Show during the carniv- al. A concert has been scheduled for Thursday, March 11... Debbie Vienneau will publicize it later. As you can see, everyone is really working on the Winter Carnival ideas. Have you a King or Queen contestant yet? Contact Sherri Jowitt for information. To date, not too many floats have entered. If you wish to enter a float contact Carolyn VanDerkam or Kelly Helmink. The Winter Carnival buttons have arrived and the Guides and Brownies will be selling them door to door. The Ski Club plans events again this year. If you. sing, dance or paly a musical inst- rument why not enter the Variety Night for children and teens to be held at the Legion. LAKE SUPERIOR WINS! GYMNASTICS PROGRAMME The gymnastics programme offered to grade six, seven and eight students commenced on January 28th. Sixty people attended and the students were tested for ability and interest with a resulting class of fifty members. The coaches are Mrs. Sue Hurley and Mr. Ron Clough of the Lake Superior High Schoo. The classes are two and one half hours each, twice a week. The classes will be receiving instruction on the uneven bars, the parallel bars, tram- poline exercises, vaulting on the box horse and floor excercises. Lesley Adey, Grade eight of the Public School, who gave the information says it's very challenging and great fun for all those who are participating. WELCOME TO: Alice and Gary Valiquette who reside at 626 Strathcona Ave. Gary works for Kimberly Clark and they come from Nebraska. STORK CLUB ------------ r---- -- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard McFadden of Terrace Bay, a girl, on February 21st. COMING TO TERRACE BAY A group of forty young people from the Dryden United Church will be at the Community Church on Sunday, February 29.at 11:00 a.m. They sing and play instruments. Everyone in the Community is invited to attend. submitted by Tracey Stachiw, Grade 8, Terrace Bay Campus. : At 4:00 on Wednesday, February 4th the Ter- race Bay Gym was the main location for a ser- ies of volleyball games. The teams competing were two girls teams and two boys teams from St. Martin School, two teams from the Schreiber €ampus and two teams from the Terrace Bay Cam- pus of Lake Superior Public School. The over- | all results showed the Lake Superior Public School division winning by a narrow margin. The proud coaches were Mr. Ditchfield, Mrs. Romanec and Mr. Morrill. The referee for all the games was Mr. Davey. On February 12 the Terrace Bay Campus met in Schreiber to determine who will make the red and blue teams to represent Lake Superior Public School at the volleyball tournament in Marathon on February 14.
