PAGE 10 TERRACE BAY NEWS WOMEN 'S INSTITUTE MEETING Mrs. Winnie Campbell presided for the February meeting of the Schreiber Women's Institute. Members brought family pictures for observation and the motto was "the mind is like a parachute when open". Among the current events discussed was the favourable article in a recent newspaper re- garding our own local M.P., Mr. Jack Stokes, Speaker of the House. : Letters of thanks were received from Mrs. Beth Macadam and Birchwood Terrace Home. A letter from Mrs. Anne Todesco, a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay was read. The President of Federated Women's Instit- utes of Ontario sent greetings in her letter and also information on good work done during the past year as well as future plans for the organization. The District fees were or- dered paid to the District Secretary - Treas- urer, Mrs. G. Ramsdale. An invitation was received to attend the 1976 Officers Conference in Waterloo on May 4 - 6th. Mrs. W. Clemens was nominated to attend this conference as a delegate. Jack Stokes, M.P. sent information regard- ing the matter of electoral boundaries. There will be no change in provincial elec- toral boundaries at the present time in-Nor- thern Ontario, but changes in the federal electoral boundaries are still pending. Mrs. Eunice Bolan presented an interesting paper on the activities of the Institute for the past year. Mrs. W. Clemems read an art- icle of the origin of Valentine's Day and some of the strange early customs of celebra- ting this holiday. Mrs. Campbell won the Valentine Contest. Lunch was served by Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Bolan. -- POSTER AND ESSAY CONTEST WINNERS In conjunction with Heritage Day, a recent essay and poster contest was held in the Sch- reiber Elementary Schools. The topic was Canada and, or, why I am proud to be a Cana- dian. The results of the judging by an independ- ant panel of six was as follows: Grades one and two - Norman Acheepeniskum, Holy Angels Grades three and four - Joey Figliomeni, Holy Angels; Grades five and six - Susie Costa, Holy Angels; Grades seven and -eight = Lorna Guina.
