ni us JANUARY 14, 1976 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 LEGION AUXILIARY BRANCH 109 MEETING A donation of $100.00 to the Wheel Chair Bus at Deer Lodge, Winnipeg was made by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109 at their meeting on January 6. They had contributed to the purchasing of 'the convenience and the last contribution is to- ward maintenance. Mrs. Jean Crook, President and Mrs. Rena Ross were named to represent the Auxiliary at a meeting with the local Parks and Recreation Committee when Brian Collins, Area Representa- tive of the Ministry of Culture and Recreation will discuss the years program. Mrs. Earline Johnson agreed to convene the dinner prior to the joint installation cerem- ony of officers of both the Branch and the auxiliary on January 17. Assisting Mrs. John- son will be Mrs. V. McKenna, Mrs. L. Weaver and Mrs. R. Ross. Mrs. Brenda Harper and Mrs. Rena Ross were named to audit the books of the auxiliary. Following the meeting the Christmas party was enjoyed, with an exchange of gifts and lunch of shared Christmas cakes. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN MEETING Mrs. Beth Macadam reluctantly agreed to again act as president of the United Church Women, of St. Andrew's Church with the under- standing that many of the duties she has been undertaking for her several years in office, will be delegated to committees. At their January 7 meeting, beginning with a potluck dinner, donations were made to sev- eral associations: $25.00 to the Thunder Bay Wayside Church Boys Club; $25.00 to the John Milt Society for the Blind;and $100.00 to the Sunday School jointly conducted by St. And-- rew's United Church and St. John's Anglican Church in Schreiber. Mrs. Macadam reported delivering and pre- senting the coffee urn from the U.C.W. for use in the sitting room of the Birchwood Terrace Home in Terrace Bay, saying it was much appreciated. Among the namy Christmas cards received were ones from Mrs. Etta Gray, Thunder Bay and Mrs. Bernice Whent, Florida both former members. The Official Board of the Church will hold its annual meeting on January 25, it was ann- ounced, following the evening service. Mrs. Bernice Jacomb and Mrs. Marguerite Gerow agreed to audit the books of the U.C.W. Miss Gwen Hadley, treasurer, presented the annual financial report, showing a successful year of work in 1975. A hearty vote of appreciation was given Mrs. Nettie Thrower who has been treasurer of the U.C.W. for twelve years, retiring this year. Various committees were selected for 1976. The World Day of Prayer, on the first Fri- day in March will be held in St. Andrew's Church, with the program to be planned later. A tentative date was set to visit Birch- wood Terrace after the Superintendant has been contacted. : February lunch hostesses will be Mesdames N. Thrower, A. Neimi and M. Spillane. Following the meeting gifts were exchanged, several rounds of bingo for small prizes played and some amusing contests enjoyed. SCHREIBER SOCIAL SPECTRUM Among the weekend visitors in town were Mrs. Doris Vallant, Thunder Bay, with Mr. and Mrs. B. Tilbury; Muriel Nesbitt, with Mr. and Mrs. D. Nesbitt; Bill Webb, with his father, Tom Webb. The children who attend the joint Sunday School of St. Andrew's United Church and St. John's Anglican Church enjoyed a Christmas pageant at their annual party. 014 St. Nick paid a visit, distributing gifts, and the party ended with special lunch and pop. Among New Year visitors in town were Miss Meredith Morrill, Vancouver, with her many relatives in town; Brian Stewart, Duncan, B.C. and Ray Cote, Espanola, with relatives and old friends; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Morrill, Karen, Doug and Greg Morrill, Thunder Bay, with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Morrill; Pat McParland, Calgary and Judy McParland, Thunder Bay, with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McParland.
