CHRISTMAS TEA SUCCESSFUL With a common concern apparently, that the unprecedently bad weather would keep most customers at home, an unexpectedly large crowd from both Terrace Bay and Schreiber att- ended the St. Andrew's Church U.C.W. Christ- mas tea-bazaar. Mrs. Beth Macadam, president, was the con- vener, others working including Mesdames Bess-| ie Scott, Esther Walker, Annie Niemi, Gwen Hadley, Helen Wallace, Margaret Spillane and Mildred Smith at the various bazaar counters. Mrs. Marguerite Gerow and Mrs. Della Moore home baking; Cathy Doig at the Children's fish pond; Mrs. Norma Fummerton sold tickets on a quilt draw (the draw to be made later) and on toy turtle, won by Betty Anne McKenna. A cake, made by Mrs. Winnie Clemens was -won by Mrs. Annie Niemi, and Mark Campbell won the] door prize. The tea tables were attended by Judy Davis Betty Ann McKenna, Edith Clemens, Mesdames Lilian Christie, Kay Fraser, Eva Gordon, Marlene Doig, Marion Simon and Mary Jane Sil- etto. Mesdames Helen D'Arcy, Margaret Nesbitt, Myra Holmes, Winnie Clemens and Bernice Jac- omb were the kitchen committee. DECEMBER MEETING The United Church Women at their December 3rd meeting, with Mrs. Beth Macadam presiding decided to purchase and present a coffee urn to Birchwood Terrace Home in Terrace Bay. This is to be used in the reception room for convenience of both residents and staff, do- ing away with carrying the coffee makers from the kitchen upstairs. The nominating committee presented the ros- ter of new officers with the exception 'of a new president. First vice president, Mrs. Norma Fummerton; Second vice president, Mrs. Marlene Doig; Secretary, Mrs. Winnie Clemens; Treasurer, Miss Gwen Hadley; Archivist, Mrs. Annie Niemi; Card secretary, Mrs. Margaret Smith; Standing conveners to be appointed at January meeting. The Christmas party was planned for Janu- ary 7th, starting with a potluck supper at 6 p.m., followed by brief business meeting. The party program will include rounds of bingo, each member asked to bring two prizes, and gift for exchange. Lunch will be served ' py Mesdames Inez McCuaig, Margaret Smith, Lilian Christie and Margaret Spillane. Mrs. Margaret Spillane, supply convener, reported she has sent a Baby Layette to the 'Mothers-on-Budget' project in Thunder Bay. A visit to Birchwood Terrace was deferred until the new year, there being many clubs visiting during the Christmas season. Miss Hadley read the Scripture passage for the devotional period and Mrs. Macadam read an interesting article 'Thank God for Christmas' The minutes of the past meeting and the financial report, were adopted as read by Mrs. Winnie Clemens and Mrs. Nettie Thrower. Mrs. Macadam thanked those who had worked and/or donated to the most successful Christ- mas bazaar. Mrs. Thrower's resignation as treasurer, after many years in that office, was accepted with regret and the hope her interest in U.C.W. affairs would continue. tam ----r---- LEGION MIXED BOWLING High bowlers for the week of December 5th were: A.
