NOVEMBER 19, 1975 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 17 REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE IN SCHREIBER The service on Remembrance Day at the Cen- otaph was attended by a good crowd, the best in some years. Jim Mikus was the bugler, L.V. Bourke, M.C. and Aurel Gauthier led the singing. Out of 26 wreaths ordered, only one arriv- ed, due to the mail strike and express fail- ure. This one was laid by the president of the Branch, Jim Crook and his wife, Jean, pre- sident of the Auxiliary. A most impressive address was given by the Rev. F.J. Meyer, Padre of the Legion. "On this November 11, as on every November 11, we as Canadians should pause to pay silent] tribute to those men who died in War and also those who were victims of aggression and in- humanity throughout the world. On our war monuments we usually find these words - Lest We Forget and in spite of this inscription too many of us have forgotten already the price paid by others that we might be free. As Canadians we enjoy freedom and we look upon it as a God given right. And so it is, but far too many fail to recognize that with every right there is a responsibility. Those who we honour today recognized their right to freedom and the rights of others. They reco- gnized their responsibility as free men and were ready to shoulder that responsibility so that others could be free. And in the exer- cise of this responsibility they were ready to pay for it with their lives. Far too many today look on freedon as a li- cense, a license to destroy private and public property, a license to "do as you please" wit- hout any accountability, a license to call people derrogatory names. These people fail to recognize what freedom means because they fail as individuals to accept their responsi- bility as citizens, fail to recognize their responsibility as human beings. If we as Canadians wish to honour the memory of those who died in war, the souls of those men whose bodies now lie buried in foreign lands, then we must be convinced they died be- lieving in a better future for mankind. If we do this and work for that future, a lasting peace in the world, they will not have died in vain." The Legion has proposed June 6 as another day for the laying of the wigaths, with an appropriate ceremony. 75 attended the banquet, served by the Lad- ies Curling Club in the Legion on November 11. Borden Ross, past president, the M.C. int- roduced the head table continued page 19.... SCHREIBER NORTH STARS WEEKEND HOCKEY SCHEDULE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22 SCHREIBER VS.
