Pte. Beauparlant has just completed the 10 week course at the school and will now be pos- ted to Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake as a member of the service police detachment. SCHREIBER ART CLUB NEWS The Schreiber Art Club at its regular meet- ing in October decided that Monday afternoons and Thursday evenings would be devoted to pa- inting, open to adult members. Alice Soarkes will assist on Mondays and Colleen Glad on Thursdays. All classes are held in the Art" Room of the Public School. The next regular meeting will be held on November 2 at 8:00p.m. LADIES AUXILIARY BRANCH 109 MEETING A donation to the Arthritic Foundation was made at the October 7th meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, Branch 109 with Mrs. Jean Crook presiding. The offer of the ladies Curling Club to ca- ter for the November llth banquet was accepted. Jim Crook, President and Larry Bourke, Se- cretary-Treasurer of the Branch met with the auxiliary to discuss arrangements for the No- vember llth program and other regular enter- tainment evenings which might be planned by the women. A wreath to be placed by the president, was ordered for November llth. Mrs, Ethel Nesbitt agreed to convene the poppy canvas, assisted by Mrs, Georgina Davis. Mrs. Avila McBride, Mrs. Charlotte Miller 1 gala occasion. and Mrs. Davis agreed to act as the nominating committee for new officers. Mrs. Lorraine Nesbitt, vice president, will look after the children's gifts for the Christ- mas party and Mrs. Frank McKenna and Mrs. Jean Tremblay will arrange the lunch for the chil- dren. The tentative date for the party was set for December l4th. The bond for the treasurer was renewed. Lunch hostesses for the-November meeting will be Mrs. Charlotte Miller, Mrs. Alice Mc- Couan and Mrs. Lil Mills. His many old friends and parishioners were so- rry to learn of the death of Dr. Walter Lav- ender, who for 1939 - 1949 had served United Churches in Schreiber, Terrace Bay, Jackfish, Heron Bay and Port Caldwell. Mr. Lavender's death occured on September 30th in the Alb- right Manor in Beamsville, Ontario. The fun- eral took place in Mount Forrest where he. made his home since leaving this area. Mr. Laven- der was 86 years of age, predeceased by his wife and a son Stanley. He is survived by two sons, Walter of Richmond Hill and Emerson of Burlington. Miss Marylyn Cook, whose marriage to John Turcotte takes place on October 11, was honor- ed at a community shower, tea held on Oct. 4. Receiving with Miss Cook were her Mother, Mrs. William Cook, and her bridesmaids, Miss Judy McParland and Miss Debbie Cook. Tea pourers were Mrs. R. Cook, Mrs. A. O'Keefe, Mrs. R.
