PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS SEPTEMBER 24, 1975 ROSSPORT ALTAR SOCIETY HOLDS SPECIAL MEETING Owing to a breakdown with the St. Berchman's Church heating system the members of the Altar Society held a meeting Sunday evening to debate if the furnace is worth repairs or if a new furnace will have to be installed. It was de- cided to have a repair man to examine the fur- nace and advise the organization the advisabi- lity of repairs. The president Mrs. Camilla Legault presid- ed for the meeting and led in the opening and closing prayers. Mrs. Mary Schelling read the minutes and correspondance - one letter was received from the Cemetery Board re fees and collection of same. The parish priest will fur- thur make a study of this proceedure. Mrs. Agnes Legault presented the financial statement. The members decided to run a few bingos to finance the furnace repairs. Mrs. Todesco, entertainment committee chairman, was asked to look after the obtaining of prizes for same. Also that anyone desiring to donate pri- zes for the bingos would be gratefully accepted It was hoped that the Church lawn could be given a good mowing before it becomes too long this fall. A hope was expressed that 'the men of the parish would take over the cutting of the grass and care of the shrubs next year as the women keep the church building clean and raise funds for repairs and supplies. The lawn sprinkler and hose is to be drained and stored for the winter. The meeting was held at Mrs. Todesco's home Sunday evening. Following adjournment the hos- tess served luncheon and a social hour was en-. joyed. ROSSPORT SOCIAL SPECTRUM Mrs. Walter Gerow was a Lakehead visitor during the week. Mrs. Nick Bain is a patient in McCausland Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. David Leisander and children and Mrs. Leona Leisander all of Fort William spent the past week guests of Mac Hubelit. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Lanigan and family of Nipigon spent the weekend with relatives here. Eugene Legault is a patient in McCausland hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Iddison and Jason were Lakehead visitors this week. Peter Testori is visiting relatives in Thunder Bay this week. 4 Chas Wilde attended the meeting at Pine Bay as a representative of Rossport seek- ing assistance for unorganized communities on the weekend. py LOCAL ROADS BOARD MEETING 1 The local Roads Board meeting was held Mon- day, September 15th in the recreation hall to discuss the delay in the blasting operations on Church Street to bring it up to standards by being hard surfaced. The poten- tial dangers on the turns to the village by motorists, buses and school bus made it mand- atory that the Board ask the Department of Transportation and Communications to rectify this situation. These approaches to the vil- lage are especially sudden and dangerous to night driving as they are difficult to see unless one is familiar with the entrances. It has been noted that casual visitors often drive past, rather than attempt to negotiate the turn to the village of Rossport. Accounts were ordered paid and the annual salary of the Sec.
