The NORTH SHORE YOUTH SUMMER CAMP To appreciate the north in which we live, we must use it to the utmost. This is the realization of the Ministry of Education and }§ the Recreation Departments of Schreiber, Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge and Marathon, and to this end the Youth Summer Camp will again be in operation this summer. This year the camp will cater to boys aged I0 - I4. It will be located at Canoe Lake, sometimes called Noslo Lake, 9 miles east of Terrace Bay. It will be a live-in camp, where the boys will be supervised by two senior student counsellors. Each camp session of five days duration, Monday, throu- gh Friday, will have IO young campers in attendance. The boys will be instructed in the use of camping equipment, organization of back-packing, preparation of meals, a course in emergency first aid, identification of ed-| ible wild plants and their preparation as emergency foods. Proper use of canoes and water safety will be emphasized before a two--= day canoe trip winds up the week's events. Map reading and compass work will give the ; boys a greater feeling of security for out- door living. a A » continued page 3 ......%.
