DECEMBER 18, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 43 EVENTS AT BIRCHWOOD TERRACE Tuesday afternoon December IOth, the Women's Institute of Schreiber held their monthly meet- ing in the board room of Birchwood Terrace hav- ing all our lady residents as guests. After the meeting these ladies joined in the afternoon coffee break in the home where they supplied a delicious lunch of assorted sandwi- ches, cheese, pickles, etc. All the residents received individual gifts and a bushel box of apples was left to have at their leisure. The Brownies of Schreiber entertained the residents of Birchwood Terrace Wednesday even- ing, December IIth with Christmas Carols. A presentation of two leather hassocks to be used in the lobby was made by Velvet Moore and Cheryl Jorsz and accepted by Mrs. Sylvia Lustila on behalf of the residents. The lunch of Christmas baking was provided and served by the children. Their cheerful dispositions and smiling faces encouraged all into a Merry Christmas Spirit. Governor John and Sr. Regent Sadie Benko and the Executives of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Terrace Bay Branch hosted a most deligh- tful evening for the residents of Birchwood Terrace. It began with a cocktail party from 5 to 6 with a sumptuous buffet dinner, served by the ladies following. The men of the Moose tended 'the bar for the evening and also entertained with a few songs of their own. . Santa appeared on the scene with gifts for all. Later the young Commisso Boys played their renditions of old and new tunes, while our res- idents enjoyed their evening of dancing. It was a fun evening for all and they are looking forward to the next time. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN'S NEWS The regular December meeting of the United Church Women of Schreiber was held with Mrs. Beth Macadam presiding. She led with the devo- tional exercises which had a Christmas theme. Mrs. M. Spillane acted as treasurer in ab- sence of Mrs. N. Thrower and also reported on cards she had sent to sick and bereaved. Mrs. Macadam thanked all persons who had donated and assisted to make the Christmas bazaar such an outstanding success. Mrs. A. Niemi, sewing con -vener, added her thanks to all people who had donated sewing and knitted articles. Members agreed to send donations to-the John Milton Society for the Blind and the Supply Convener of Superior Presbyterial in order to assist with a Christmas party for needy chil- dren in Thunder Bay. A monetary donation will _ also be given to the combined Anglican and United Church Sunday School in Schreiber to pay for school supplies and Annual Christmas party. Birchwood Terrace Home will be visited on Friday, December 20th. Cribbage boards and playing cards will be presented to the resi- dents. Members are to meet at St. Andrew's Church at 6:30 p.m. for transportation to the home. The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 6th. A pot luck supper will preceed the meeting followed by exchange of gifts, penny auction (2 prizes) and a guest speaker. The same officers were elected by acla- mation. Following the meeting Mrs. Jan McEwen of Terrace Bay gave an interesting address on her profession as public health nurse. Such nur- ses provide health education in schools and in the community by working closely with doctors, dentists, teachers and health inspec -tors.
