PAGE 42 .TERRACE BAY NEWS DECEMBER 18, I974 SCHREIBER NORTH STARS TO ATTEND ONTARIO WINTER GAMES on Thursday, December I2th the Schreiber Nor -th Stars hosted the Niprock Rangers at the Schreiber Arena. The North Stars seemingly tried too hard to be the perfect host. They let the Rangers have the run of the house, in- cluding the scoreboard which they ran up to 11, making Schreiber's 7 look miserable. At the end of the Ist Niprock led 7-I, and it was 8-2 going into the 3rd period. Schreiber just nev- er seemed to be able to get going and things could have been worse were it not for Ed Zwar- esh's hat trick. Unfortunately G. Vezeau of Niprock equaled this feat to keep Niprock out of reach. y On Saturday, Niprock travelled to Schreiber again this proved to be a hard-hitting, close game. It was 2-2 going into the 2nd with Sch- reiber seeking revenge and Niprock fighting for first place in the league standings. The 2nd period ended with Niprock leading 5-3. Schrei- ber seemed dying and doomed. Just before the start of the 3rd period, Mr. Borden ROSS, coach of the North Stars was honoured with a plaque presented by Schreiber Minor Hockey for the many years of hockey Mr. Ross has given the town as a player, referee and coach. This seem- ed to renew the self-respect of the North Stars and they went out to win this one for Mr. Ross. Niprock was quitting however, and it took till 8:55 for Rick Spadoni' to put his winning goal away, making it an 8-7 victory for Schreiber. Schreiber North Stars are representing the Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League in the Ontar- io Winter Games to be held in Thunder Bay, Dec- ember 27-30. .We hope you will support the club, even if you do prefer Niprock or Atikokan or Thunder Bay Blades because Schreiber will be playing as your representation. The North Stars will undoubtedly do their best, which can be pretty good, but a team always plays better with some fan support, so try to let the team know that you're behind them. At present Schreiber and Niprock are tied for Ist place in the league standings, yet many people from the towns of Nipigon and Red Rock have stated a de- sire for North Star booster buttons and shown complete backing for Schreiber. We can only hope you will. You will see some of Ontario's top athletes at this competition and when you have a representative involved in it, and it: is so close, aren't you cheating yourself and your boys if you miss this. : w- i The word "Christmas" means the celebration of Christ, short for Christ's birthday. PAUL KENDRICK WINS ARCTIC CAT Keys to the Arctic Cat Lynx I are presented to Mr. Paul Kenrick of Schreiber by Bruce Tilbury of the McCausland Hospital Board. Other winners in the hospital draw were 2nd prize Gene Ross, Schreiber and 3rd prize Mrs. C. Gorman, Terrace Bay. A profit of $1566.25 was realized from the sale of tickets for the Arctic Cat. In photo below Mr. Bernie McCracken, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Hospital Board accepted a cheque for this amount from Mr. Bruce Tilbury. The Italian "Natale" and Spanish "Navidad" (or Nati- vidad) follow the same pattern. But "Weinachten," the German word for Christmas, means Holy Night or Blessed Night and refers to the Nativity only by implication, : "@yule" is an Old English or Anglo-Saxon word for Christmas, and there are similar words with: similar meanings in German and the Scandinavian languages. Originally it probably referred to a pagan winter festival and became associated with the Nativity with the onset of the Christian era. I Fy
