After the two-week holiday season, they + are discarded. But Christmas trees can now be recycled. They can be given a second life in which their organic com- ponents can be put to work nurturing other life. A machine known as a wood chipper instantly re- duces them to valuable garden mulch. This mulch retains soil moisture and can be ap- plied on top of snow to protect bulbs and stems of young trees and shrubs. Also, this coarse sawdust-like stuff is as good as salt or sand for improving traction on icy driveways. : * * hk Kk Kk Kk *
