DECEMBER 4, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS CROSS COUNTRY MEET With a generous contribution from the Roy- al Canadian Legion, Schreiber Branch, Holy Angels' students were able to compete in a cross-country meet in Thunder Bay. There were 23 girls teams and 29 boys teams from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas. : Holy Angels' girls team placed I5, Holy Angels' boys team placed II. Elena Speziale placed 69th out of I90 girls, Leslie Comeau placed 44th out of 220 boys. Students and teachers of Holy Angels would sincerely like to thank the Legion for their support. Those participating from Schreiber were: Boys = Vincent Maggio, John Anderson, Mark Campbell, Alan Lavigne, Mario Veneziano, Frank Trichilo, Mr. McEwan (coach), Rene Garneau, Billy Bolduc, Leslie Comeau. Girls = Elena Speziale, Marilyn O'Connor, Brenda Garneau, Anita Speziale, Anna Racioppi, Tina Redins, Virginia Stortini, Mary Stortini, Karen Ukrainec, Miss McPherson (coach). SCHREIBER COUNCIL QUOTES Reeve H.J. McParland and the full council attended the IIth regular meeting of Schreiber Town Council, expressing concern at the Minis- try of Health's inaction over the ambulance problem, and a request will be made asking th- at a decision be made. Roy Kragero requested that water line be laid to serve his property = to be done this year if possible, was the decision. The Chimo Club will be notified that the leak in the club roof will be checked, but because of the cold weather doubt was express--- ed it could be repaired now. The protest of a citizen regarding the flooding of his cess pool, due to natural dra- inage in the area where he lives, was consid- ered and the problem referred to the water department. The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment wrote inquiring into the possibility of forming a militia unit in Schreiber and asking where supplies could be stored - the matter referred to the Legion. The Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Re- lations wrote regarding the cemetery addition, pointing out the necessity for establishing perpetual care fund by setting aside a certain amount from the sale of each plot to use to maintain the cemetery. M.M. Dillons' proposed survey of the town water system and proposed pressure (water) was accepted, providing the cost does not exceed $3,500.00 A letter of congratulations was sent to the young people who produced the booklet on the history of Schreiber this summer. N.A. McCuaig was asked to price various types of commercial type vacuum cleaners for town use. General accounts amounting to $23,470.12 were approved for payment. Mrs. Dorothy Rummery, Schreiber's represen- tative, gave a detailed report on the activi- ties of the McCausland Hospital Board, men- tioning several fund-raising projects now underway including a door-to-door canvas of both Schreiber and Terrace Bay. REBEKAHS TO DONATE GIFTS TO RETARDED At their November 27th meeting Ruby Rebek- ah Lodge decided to have a pot luck supper preceed their December llth meeting and foll- owing it, an exchange of gifts and Christmas penny auction. Arrangements to be made by Mesdames Lilian Christie, Helen Wallace, Beth Macadam, Alice Sparkes, Norma Fummerton and Gladys Hamilton. In place of the customary children's party, this year, it was decided to donate gifts to the Association for Retarded Chil- dren in the district. After discussion a rental fee of $5.00 was set for use of the Lodge dishes and $2.00 for the coffee urn. Thank you notes were received from several members who have been ill. Mrs. G. Hamilton, N.G. and Mrs. Jessie McCanna, P.N.G. as the vice-grand presided for the meeting.
