NOVEMBER 20, 1974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 23 TODAY'S CHILD BY HELEN ALLEN TERR THE TORONTO SJ] SYNDICATE You can tell from the expression that Dick is an imp. At nine he is lively and mischievous -- and most engaging. Anglo-Saxon in background, Dick is a husky youngster with - brown hair and hazel eyes. His health is excellent. He is somewhat shy on meeting strangers but soon becomes his uninhibited self. With people he knows, he is lovable and af- fectionate. Because he is hyperactive and excitable, school has been hard for Dick, as it is for any child who finds it difficult to stay put. He isin Grade Four. Dick loves the outdoors. His foster family camps regularly and Dick has become an enthusiast. He likes any kind of energetic game, especially hockey but is fond of music and has started to play the guitar. Dick needs young, energetic parents who will enjoy his liveliness and give him love, stimulation and control. To inquire about adopting Dick, please write to Today's Child, Ministry of Community and Social Services, Box 888, Station K, Toronto M4P 2H2. For general adoption information, consult your local Children's Aid Society. Brownies of Terrace Bay attended a Pack Holiday Camp at Three Fingers Lake in Marathon with Mrs. Jones, and Rangers Diane Jones and Carla Crockford. The girls of the Ist pack were Sabina Burhmann, Lisa Helmink, Shelley Velanoff, Penny Luke. Each received first of all the Holiday Badge, this is a fun badge, and all Brownies who attend a camp under can- vas, and participate in all camp activities, receive one, this is to help girls to live, work and play happily together away from home. Five other badges were earned by the girls - Athlete, Collectors, Outdoor Adventure, Puppet ~eer and Writer. Anita Laitinen and Paulette Theriault who are now in Guides have also received their Badges from camp. Athlete Badge - The five Rangers at Camp spent a whole day working on this badge with the Brownies, and after running, skipping, ball throwing and lots of exercise the girls were soon fast alseep that night. The Collectors and Outdoor Adventure were earned during camp hikes and rambles, the gir- 1s made displays of leaves and flowers for 'collectors' and many displays were very ar- tistic, The Puppeteer =- was an interesting one, a visitor from Marathon came in twice and taught the girls to make puppets, when this was com~- pleted the girls put on a puppet show in grou- ps, and this is where the girls wrote some of their 'writers' badge, a story and diary of 'Life at Camp' finished the requirements. Recently Mr. and Mrs. George Aulenback kin- dly allowed the Brownies to visit their home to see their German Shepherd dog "Sheba" and her II puppies.
