Following the formal introductions by Mr. D'Arcy the responses and speeches became the expected and thoroughly enjoyed medley of informal reminiscenses of earlier years, good natured jibes, interlaced with acknow- ledgements of improved protection and working conditions, and others expected. Mr. D'Arcy complimented the committee who had arranged the happy occasion - Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Thrower, Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Godin, Mr. and Mrs. Camille Perras, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Anderson. Des O'Driscoll thanked the United Church Women who catered for the dinner and remarked in appreciation of the growing number of young members of the U.T.U. who are attending such events honouring their veterans. Mr. Stokes spoke of his pride in his 16 year membership and work with the Union, his gratification is seeing the retired people in Schreiber carrying on active lives in their community. Mr. Alliston said this, his first visit to the renowned Schreiber Division had been a most happy occasion, and went on to describe some of C.P.Rail's new objectives. Mr. Tripp, remarking wryly, to follow a Vice-president and a member of Parliament, was a bad spot to be in, indeed, but this, his second service in Schreiber, was being appreciated by himself because it afforded him the opportunity of personal contact as Superintendant with all the men, in their various departments. Reeve McParland offered an explanation of the summer's 'bad streets' due to the sewage installation, and spoke on other aims and projects of the town council. Fred Priske, long retired engineer, drew laughter recall- ing his career as a railroader starting at 14 as a Call Boy, concluding by saying that if anyone then had suggested a Brotherhood of Firemen and Conductors, he would have sil- ently muttered 'Oh Brother!' and now we are Brothers in an obviously satisfactorily arrang- ement. NDY CAPP Paintings by Connie Martin, wife of Condr. George Martin, used for the occassion, were much admired. The banquet menu, intelligible only to railroaders, drew many chuckles.
