SEPTEMBER 5, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE I5 MACK SKINNER ELECTED NATIONAL KINSMEN PRESIDENT. Mack Skinner of Sydney, Nova Scotia was elected 54th Na- tional President of The Association of Kinsmen Clubs during the organization's Annual Convention held in Winnipeg last week . Skinner succeeds George Irving of Cam- bridge, Ontario as President and offic- ial spokesman for this all Canadian young men's service organization. Much of the Kinsmen's chief Executive's time will be spent travelling throughout the eight Kinsmen Districts and meeting the leaders of the approximately 500 Kinsmen Clubs across Canada. A fifteen year Kinsmen veteran, Skinner ser- ved his local area as Club President, District Reporter, District Governor and many other off- ices representing the Atlantic provinces. In I97I, he received the Association's highest award, the DeCew Shield, as Canada's best Gov- ernor for the Association. Mr. Skinner has been a United Appeal worker for eight years, Seeds of Hope Chairman for two years, member of the Cape Breton County Munici- pal School Board for three years and an Elder in the United Protestant Church for ten years. During the immediate past I2 years, Skinner has served as the National Vice President of the Association during a year that saw the Ass- ociation raise over $I5,000,000.00 for commun- ity services. Following his election as National President on August 24th, Mr. Skinner stated that during his upcoming year of office, he would encour- age the expansion of Kinsmen throughout Canada so that every community would be able to enjoy the benefits -- not only in its service to the community but also to its citizens who can be- come members. Attending the convention and representing the Kinsmen Club of Schreiber were Mike and Edythe Cosgrove, Dave and Muriel Walton, Bob and Jackie Turner, Tom and Sandy Quinton, Bruce and Joyce Gordon, Eva and Alex Gordon, Brian. and Ruth Ann Birch, Don and May Anderson, Doug and Pat Moore, Wayne and Joan Stewart, and Joe King. Representing Terrace Bay was Bruce and Maureen Costall. At this Convention, Schreiber walked away away with some very high honors. I. Kinette Bulletin Editor Brenda Birch was runner-up for the best Bulletin in the Dis- trict. This District encompasses all of Man- itoba and as far east as Terrace Bay. 2. Kinsmen Bulletin Editor, Doug Moore was runner-up for the best Bulletin in the Nation- al Competition. 3. Zone 4 which includes the North Shore was awarded the Alexander Trophy for 100% Effici- ency under the able leadership of Bruce Gord- on, Deputy Governor. The incoming Deputy Gov- ernor for Zone 4 is Mike Cosgrove of the Kins- men Club of Schreiber.
