Twenty-nine occurrences were reported during the week as follows: - Spot check pays off: At 12:05 a.m., August 23rd an alert constable noticed a strange car in town and took note of the licence number and vehicle description. At 10:30 a.m. it was reported that the North Shore Transit had been broken into and quantity of tools stolen. A vehicle description was circulated and later that day two suspects were arrested at Sault Ste. Marie. Charges of break, enter and theft have been laid. ; As the result of a fight on Simcoe Plaza, re- ported in last weeks Police Report, two men have been charged with assault causing bodily harm. Two charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act, eleven motor vehicles were safety checked with nine warnings being given. I have today sent the following letter to the Minister of Health: "Dear Mr. Minister: I am requesting that a full enquiry be made in- to the ambulance services being conducted by. the province. In particular, full public dis- closure of the level of ambulance service, to- gether with whatever provisions are available for back-up service, must be made, also the methods of financing what are primarily inde~ pendent operations should be reviewed. It is my understanding from investigations I have conducted that while the initial approval of the budgets of ambulance operators is the responsibility of the government of Ontario, there is virtually no audit or mechanism for checking the actual expenditures. It is evident that where public funds are con- cerned, the use to which they are put should be the subject of public scrutiny."
