Operating under an Opportunities for Youth program, a group of young Schreiber people have succeeded in establishing the nucleus for a museum in town - the natural repository and and display case, for the oldest railroad town in the area - what else but a 'van', a real, red, little old caboose! C.P. Rail donated the caboose, a most grati- fying gesture, to the young committee, steeped in railroad lore, and North East Construction, presently working in the town, offered the sur- prise gift of the loan of a front-end loader, to move the caboose from the railway track to its position in the town square. The entire operation supervised by a group of older citi- zens, members of the town council, and the us- 'ual bunch of small boys, curvetting about on 'bikes. The young committee, Kevin Scott, Darlene Fummerton, Linda Huard, Debbie Cook and Dennis Zborowski, are presently engaged in re-estab- lishing the van's appearance by bright new paint, in it's original colour - C.P.R. RED! If possible, they hope to have a display, this Fall, of pictures and objects depicting the old days in Schreiber, and next year, have regular displays. Kevin Scott, the archivist in his family, has recently been bequeathed an astonishing box of pictures, scenes and events and events in Schreiber, in bygone days, which the family and friends are studying with interest. And particularly, Frank Commisso, a profes- sional photographer, presently studying at Confederation College, is most interested in the peculiar-sized negatives, and, is present- ly, developing pictures from them. The big box of pictures, negatives and items of family history, came to Kevin from his aunt, Mrs. Russell Skinner, in Duncan, B.C Mrs. Skinner being the former Margaret Scott. And, the pictures and family history, sent to Kevin, will provide a program in itself, next year, when assembled, of the Scott and Anderson families, pioneer citizens of Schrei- ber.
