JUNE 5, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE II ART SHOW The Schreiber Art Club, under the direction of Mrs. Helen Strickland, Thunder Bay artist and art instructor, is preparing for it's ann- ual show. Due to the increase in membership the show this year will be held in the Lake Superior High School (Schreiber Campus) on Saturday, June 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to I0 p.m., and again on June 9 from 2 to 5 p.m., Refreshments will be served and a silver collection appreciated. The attendance last year was unexpectedly large, with many coming from Thunder Bay and the district, and it anticipated there will be even more at this show. An oil portrait, "The 0ld Fisherman", by Alice Sparkes: will be the draw prize for the event, with the winning ticket to be drawn at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday June 9th. The Terrace Bay Art Club has been invited to display their work in the show. Mrs. Strickland is very popular with the local club, where she has taught for several years, sponsored by Confederation College. She is a confident and perceptive teacher, successful with both advanced students, and in encouraging beginners. In a recent ten weeks' course she held classes Tuesday afternoons, Tuesday evenings, and Wednesday afternoons, including instruct- ion in portraits for the advanced members, and special attention given to beginners. HILLER: . The funeral of the late Mrs. Pearl Hiller, whose death occurred on May 20th, was conduct- ed by the Rev. Peter McKague in St. Andrew's United Church in Schreiber, on May 23rd. Prior to the church service the Rebekah Lodge #279 conducted its service in the King Funer- al Home. 3 Honorary pall bearers were William Paradis, George Birch, Frederick Harness and George Gordon. Active bearers were Jody Davis, Larry Davis, Bill Hiller (grandsons) Wayne Wilson Burton Phillips and Lloyd Small. : Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mrs. Hiller was predeceased by her husband in I957, and by three brothers, Andrew, Mal- colm and John Sutherland. She is survived by one daughter, Georgina (Mrs. Ken Davis) and one son, Leonard both of Schreiber, II grand- children and two great grandchildren, and also several neices and nephews. Mrs. Hiller, nee Pearl Sutherland, was born in Goderich and her death in her 82 year, occ- urred in Thunder Bay, where she had spent the past seven years residing in Pinewood Court. Mrs. Hiller grew up in Jackfish and Rossport, her father being a light keeper, coming to Schreiber as a bride, being married when Mr. Hiller returned from overseas with the Cana- dian Army. Her chief interests outside her home were the United Church Women and the Rebekah Lodge in both of which she took an active part. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Roy McKee (neice) Thunder Bay; Cliff Sutherland (nephew) Beardmore; Mrs.: Barbara Petty, Miss Lois Davis, Mr. and Mrs. W. Lidkea, Thunder Bay. REBEKAH LODGE MEETING The Charter was draped, at the regular Re- bekah meeting, in memory of the late Mrs. Pedrl Hiller, past noble grand, and faithful member for many years. : Second nominations for elective officers were recorded. Members were reminded of the C.P.T. comm- ittee penny auction and grocery hamper draw on June 28th and asked to contribute. An invitation was received from Amethyst Rebekah Lodge, Thunder Bay, to attend their meeting on June 3rd when the degree will be conferred. Mrs. Shirley Brown of the local Art Club invited members to attend the Club's show this year on June 8 and 9 in the Lake Superior High School. Mrs. Glorie Miller presented a farewell gift to Mrs. Mildred Van Eederi who will short- ly be leaving for a new home in Stratford. Mrs. Elsie Mork of Thunder Bay, the distr- ict deputy president will attend the June I2 meeting when Ruby Rebekah will carry out ini- tiation ceremonies. Members of the degree team were urged to attend the practice on Tuesday, June IIth at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. L. Harris, N.G. and Mrs. Gladys Hamil- ton V.G. presided for the meeting, which was followed by penny auction arranged by Mrs. Glorie Miller and Mrs. G. Hamilton. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Doug May of Schreiber are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Virginia to Mr. James Hain of Watt- gond. : The wedding will take place on August 24th in Bracebridge, Ontario.,
