rt TERRACE BAY NEWS cme Vol. I7 ©No. 2I MAY 29, 1974 20¢ Per Copy DANNY VIENNEAU - MOST VALUABLE PLAYER More than 250 persons attended the Annual Minor Hockey League dinner on Thursday night at the Moose Hall, catered by the mothers and other interested ladies, and served by students and the mothers of young hockey players. Gerry Dupas was Master of Ceremonies, and kept things moving along at a goed pace. Father A. Greengrass said Grace. Gerry Dupas introduced the head table guests. After an excellent dinner, President Bruce Scott gave a short address. Presentation of awards took place, with the Atom Division leading off. The House League champions were the Mercury's. They were award- ed the Cebrario trophy, presented by W. Robit- ~aille. Individual trophies were given out by Fred McMillan and Paul Pluta. Danny Vienneau won the Costa trophy, presen- ted by Tony Costa, for the Most Valuable Play- er. Bob Adamo presented the Adamo trophy for Most Improved Player to Kelly Walsh. : In the PeeWee Division, House League champ- ions were the Mustangs. Mrs. Scheuchenpflug gave the North Shore Transit trophy to Scott Thompson, of the Mustangs. Individual trophies were presented by D. Thompson and D. Roberts. The Shell Canada Trophy, donated by Jim Mikus for M.V.P. went to Bobby Weaver. Island View Shell Service Trophy was presented to Greg Kodila, for M.I.P. by Curt Desrosiers. Gordie Calder, now living in Fort Frances, travelled to Terrace Bay, specially to present the Calder Memorial Trophy for the Bantam div- ision, to M.V.P. Peter Dashkewytch. David Lapenskie won the M.I.P. award from the Terrace Bay Minor Hockey Association, presented by W. Robitaille, in the absence of Kerr Angus. continued page 2 DISTRICT BOARD PLANS BIRCHWOOD OPENING The Board of Management of the Thunder Bay District Homes for the Aged Board held their regular monthly meeting on May 23rd. Accounts were approved for payment for both Pinewood Court and Birchwood Terrace. Other rputine business was then completed. The Board agreed to the increase in stove oil of $.082 per gallon as of June Ist in accordance with their agreement with Shell. New wage schedules for employees and policy statements were discussed in detail. The Administrator was authorized to finalize the policy state- ment and present it to the Board for final approval. The Board also agreed to the pro- posal of Sun Life Assurance Company for Life and Accident Insurance for all full time empl=- oyees. The balance of the meeting was taken up with preparations for the official opening of Birchwood Terrace on May 3Ist. There have been 300 individual invitations sent out and the news media will be informed that the pub~ lic is welcome to attend the ceremonies and to tour the facilities. The two plaques have arrived and will be unveilled at the opening. The brochure has been received from the print- ers and will be distributed at the ceremonies on the 3Ist. Present plans are for the Minister to arr- ive in Terrace Bay at a time which will allow him to tour the Hospital, Recreation Complex and the Home prior to the opening ceremonies at Birchwood. A bus will be leaving Pinewood Court on the morning of the 3Ist with residents, Auxiliary people and staff and will be returning Friday evening. > continued page 2 ......
