FAGL I6 TERRACE BAY NEWS MAY 22, I974 SCHREIBER RECREATION NEWS SUMMER JOB APPLICATIONS: Summer job applications are now available at the High School Guidance Office, the Munici- pal Office and the Recreation Office in the Public School. Schreiber Recreation is offer- ing seven positions but several of them are de- . pendent on whether we receive youth-in-action grants for the programmes. Deadline for sub- mission 'of applications is MAY 3Ist. TENNIS: The tennis net is up now at Holy Angels School. We have ordered another net to replace one which was lost last year. Please treat the nets well as they are very expensive to re- place. You are all welcome to play én the tennis court at any time. Is there. anyone who might volunteer to teach tennis? Office (824-2325) if you are interested and 'we will try to organize a programme. SWIMMING: Schreiber Recreation is busy organizing the summer swimming programme. We have hired four highly~qualified swim instructors who are all eager to get the programme underway. Joan Persson is the head of the programme. Linda Fraser is her assistant. Donna Gellert and Mynna Gauthier are both qualified Red Cross Leaders and will also be teaching this summer. All these people are experienced in the Schreiber Swim programmes. We are looking forward to a great summer swim programme if only the ice will get off White Sand Lake! The programme is scheduled to begin July 2nd. Registration forms will be distributed in the schools the first week in June. ART TREK: Michael Wallace of Art Trek phoned to say that they are interested in bringing their pro- gramme to our area this summer. Art Trek is a team of two artists which arr- ives with a van full of art supplies and equip- ment to conduct a three to five day workshop in the community. Painting, tie-dying, batik, wood-cut, print making are all included. The Art Trek programme was co-sponsored by the Sports and Recreation Bureau and the Ontar- io Society of Artists last year. There is no charge for supplies or equipment All we need to do is supply a facility for the workshop and the people to participate. The programme really looks like fun. All we need is some community interest to bring Art Trek to Schreiker this summer. Call the Recreation LACROSSE : We are also trying to organize a Lacrosse League for this summer. If you are interest- ed, call the Recreation Office ar get in touch with Laurie Halonen. * PLAYGROUND SPORTS PROGRAMME : Four Schreiber students have obtained an Opportunities for Youth grant from the Feder- al Government to run a playground sports pro- gramme in Schreiber this summer. The leaders in this programme are Kirk Fischer, Donna McGrath, Patricia McGrath and Shane Walsh. They plan to have all sorts of exciting activities for Schreiber kids this summer. Indoor and outdoor sports, hikes, art and and craft are all part of their programme. Further information will be available with the registration forms which we'll be bring- ing around to the schools the first week in June. Also a reminder to the Recreation Committee members that our next:meeting will be Monday, May 27th at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers unless otherwise notified. "SPRING ART SHOW" The Schreiber Art Club will be holding the "Spring Art Show" on Saturday, June 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. and on Sunday, June 9th from 2 to 5 p.m. Due to increased membership the exhibition has been changed from the Schreiber Public School to the Lake Superior High School, Schreiber Campus. Refreshments will be served and silver collection appreciated. "The Old Fisherman" oil portrait by J Alice Sparkes will be drawn on Sunday, June 9th at 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium. SCHREIBER TOWN TOPICS Recently visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Handel have been Albert Pearson of Sudbury, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pearson of White River F.D. Turner, Superintendant of Pensions, Canadian Pacific, addressed a gratifyingly large crowd of pensioners and their wives at a meeting held in the town hall on May I4th. Mr. Turner explained in great detail the following subjects: Pension Benefits, Maximum Allowable Service, Deferred Pension-Optional, Retroactive Wages, Survivor Allowances, Pens- ioners and Widows. His explanations were cl- osely followed and the audience ready with questions during the informal session.
