SEARCH AND RESCUE HOLD FIRST MEETING The first of five training sessions being sponsored by the local Search and Rescue units was held on Wednesday night, May Ist at the Terrace Bay campus of Lake Superior High School Words of welcome were extended to the large group attending by Gus Drexler of the local ex- ecutive. This first session was addressed by Robert Milne, an executive of the Thunder Bay Search and Rescue. Mr. Milne began his address by explaining the purpose of the Search and Rescue program, namely a voluntary organization which assists local authorities in times of emergency. The invaluable use of the port -able radio was also demonstrated and explain- ed. After a coffee break, during which inform- al discussion took place, Mr. Milne indicated what supplies a member of a patrol would re- quire during a 3-day search. Mobility was emphasized and it was recommended that the pack and its contents be kept to a minimum of 25 pounds to prevent fatigue. These sessions will continue for the next four Wednesday evenings and will cover such topics as first aid, compass and maps, bush survival and first man on the scene. These sessions are open to all residents of the community, both male .and female, at no charge. ATTENTION - LEADERS NEEDED! The Schreiber Guide Company desperately in need of leaders.
