Vol. I7 No. I9 May I5, 1974 20¢ Per Copy LIVE THEATRE IN TERRACE BAY Live theatre came to Terrace Bay schools on Wednesday afternoon and evening with the pres- entation of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", by the Studio Lab Theatre Foundation players of Toronto. It was amazing what this talented group of young people could do with a handful of old clothes, yards of burlap, lead pipes, kee clamps, a ladder and a few boxes. On a round wooden stage, where the youngest children sat on the floor in a circle to watch the play, a simple setting and a lot of imagin- ation transformed the Terrace Bay High School Auditorium into the days of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Scripts are written by the cast, directed by Ernest J. Schwarz. It was a lively, exciting performance, with audience participation at times, making it great fun for the little people who were watch- ing. This group of young actors have been doing children's plays, from the Studio Lab, for the past ten years. They set up their own stages, and backgrounds, which takes about an hour and a half. Their equipment goes back into boxes which have been used on the stage as props. They tour the northwest and northern parts of Ontario bringing live theatre to school child- ren who otherwise would not have this opportun- ity. This presentation was made possible by the co-operaticn of the Terrace Bay Recreation De-: partment, the Lake Superior Board of Education, the Terrace Bay-Schreiber Separate School Board and the Ontario Arts Council. ; cont'd page 2 ...
