ANNUAL MEETING HELD IN SCHREIBER The Thunder Bay Riding Progressive Conserva- tive Association 'held its annual meeting in Schreiber, with Mrs. Hilda Holm of Geraldton presiding. In her annual report, as te Mrs. Holm said, in 1973, singly, and sometimes toge- ther, she, Don Smith of Nipigon, vice-president and Ben Nelson of Jellicoe, secretary-treasurer had visited local associations from White River to Pickle Crow, almost every one in a riding : of 300 by 600 miles, with the exception of tho- se only accessible by plane. Their first move in their visitation program was to devise a map to deal with the mileage involved to ensure the best use of time. One issue, they realized, is common to all in Northwestern Ontario - the need for Social and Economic growth, bringing personal satis- faction. Other problems are local, particular to certain areas because of restricted employ- ment and other matters, and some are personal ones, requiring investigation which the person involved is unable to pursue. The importance of visits by members of parliament was evident when during the past months Lorne Henderson and Robert Eaton were in the riding, being able, in some instances . was adopted. ito provide an immediate answer to a problem, "and, in others indicate the proper authority | to contact to solve it, saving both time and - frustration for the individual involved. A moments silence was observed in tribute to three deceased members. Ben Nelson's report as secretary-treasurer Mr. Nelson seconded Mrs. Holm's remarks on the value of Mr. Henderson's visit saying it showed the importance of easily- available first hand information:regarding 'issues.' Don Smith, first vice president, spoke on the need for co-ordination and mutual aid. between local committees, referring to some instances when he felt it had been lacking. = Mrs. Holm welcomed Lorne Colpitts, Region- al Resource Liason Officer, who explained his position was not to suggest, but assist, when asked, in one way, by arranging visits oF Ministers to the area.
