MEETING Miss Heather Graham was welcomed as a new member at the regular April meeting of the auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branc I09, Mrs. Jean Crook presiding. ; Final plans were made for the penny auction on May 3rd, Mrs. Beth Macadam distributing tickets for sale. The Auxiliary's birthday party on May 25th was also discussed and final arrangements left until the May meeting. Mrs. Rena Ross listed her canvassers- for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, to be done during the first week in May. Mrs. Chris Morris reported there are now 56 members with still more to pay dues. Mrs. Barbara Ann McLaughlin was presented with her past president's pin and medal by Mrs. Georgina Davis, another past president. Mrs. Davis, reporting for sports activit- ies, said the annual shuffleboard competion with Terrace Bay has not yet been arranged. Several members accepted the invitation from White River Legion auxiliary to attend their 24th anniversary party on April 27th. Edna Cocks volunteered to convene the Min- or Hockey banquet with the tentative date of April 28th. Mrs. Gail Welbourne agreed to take charge of the kitchen for the Mice on Ice party, April 6th. Jim Crook, president of the Legion Branch was invited to attend the auxiliary's May general meeting. Mrs. Barbara Smart reported the Sunday socials are going well with the special prize yet to be won. Mrs. Veneta Moore agreed to do telephone calls for this month. Mesdames Pat Moore, Lil Mills and Chris Morris were named hostesses for the May meet- ing. Minutes of the last meeting and the finan- cial statement were adopted as read by Mrs. Bea McCuaig and Mrs. Avila Richardson. There were I8 members attending, many unashamedly basent to support the North Stars playing in Nipigon that night. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Phillips have returned from a holiday spent in the Barbados. CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT Sixteen couples took part in the Cribbage tournament held Saturday evening by the School Recreation Committee in the school hall, Ross- port. Refreshments and a buffet lunch was served. The event was convened by Floyd Harnden, Romeo Bouchard and John Joiner. Prizes were won as follows: First event - C. Henderson and H. Schroeder; Second event - Laura McParland and Leo Bouchard; Third event - Mr. and Mrs. N. Bain; Fourth event - Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gerow. ; Teams taking part came from Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport. Top winner in the Cribbage Tournament Charles Henderson and Henry Schroeder with their prize, a pair of blankets. N Adolph King with a plague he made this winter showing the different types of net corks used in commercial fishing. Mr. King plans on donating this work of art to the Nipigon museum. Photos by A.
