During his 20-year career, he performed II seasons with New York Rangers, during which time he had four 20-goals-plus seasons. Then in I963- 64, his first full season with Boston, he scored 23. Then it was on to Detroit, where he had a 23-goal year in I966-67. From Detr- oit he went to Pittsburgh and in two years with the Penguins scored 26 and 2I goals in '69~-70 - '70-7I, respectively. Pittsburgh sold him to Minnesota after the '7I seasons and Dean went on to score 20 and 26 in his two seasons as a North Star. Brilliant careers indeed, for both men !! And Steady Eddie Shack is still giving oppos- ing teams fits .... The NHL and the WHA made peace recently (if you want to call it that) by agreeing to play a series of exhibition games prior to the start of next season. But if you check the proposed schedule of games between the two leagues, six of the NHL teams won't be part of it. Toronto Maple Leafs, New Yé&rk Rangers and Detroit Red Wings are the only three establish ~ed clubs who have agreed to play against WHA teams; and in a sense you can't count the Leafs, since they are owned by Harold Ballard, who is a friend of John Bassett, who owns the WHA Toros. You'll notice that Montreal, Boston, Chicago and Phil- adelphia -- probably the most established clubs, currently, in the NHL, don't plan to play exhibitions against WHA teams. J And neither do Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings .... Any idea what major league baseball umpires make, salary-wise? Not all that much when you consider all the crap they sometimes have to take. The true veterans, the guys who have been around 20 years or more, will make $35,000 this year and $37,500 in I976.
