SCHREIBER TOWN TOPICS Dick Warder and his Merry Men, with their wives, from Haywood, Wisconsin, decended on Schreiber again for a week of fun, bringing their snow machines to ride trails from early morning to dusk. And then the fun of the many parties in their honour, began with fragrant potlatches, and strange but effective potions to ward off possible chills from the long rides Dick grew up in Schreiber and has converted his crew into enjoying the practical jokes, perpetrated locally. In fact, it appears, the Haywood crowd, spend months planning dev- ising similar pranks at their Schreiber friend- s' expense. With Dick this year were his wife, Arlene,,. Gary and Barbara Rudd, Steve and Kity Waggoner, George and Janette Long, Lloyd and Maude Bender, Laverne and Janice Lyons and Norman and Linda Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dietrich were honoured at a farewell party in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dimmery when the others at the par- ty were the group with whom they'd skidood and fished, winter and summer, during the seven years they spent in Schreiber. The evening was a successful surprise, The Dimmery's having lured the Dietrich's to their home on a pretext, and while games and dancing were enjoyed the best part of the party, was in recalling experiences on winter trails riding and good fishing trips. . The Dimery's presented a barometer as a personal gift and the group presented a swag lamp. . Mr. Dietrich an official has been trans- " ferred by the CP Rail to Preston, Ontario. We express our sympathy to Mrs. C. Knauff and family on the passing of Cliff Knauff in McCausland Hospital on Thursday evening, March 4th. TODAY'S CHILD 4 BY HELEN ALLEN TRE THE TORONTO 5 UJ}'| SYNDICATE The wistful look typifies Michael's attitude towards life. He hopes for a stable future after an unsettled past, but because of that past he finds it difficult to trust people At 12 Michael is healthy and extremely handsome with light brown hair and blue eyes. His background is Anglo-Saxon. Pleasant and outgoing in manner, Michael meets people easily though he does not take the initiative with new acquaintances. He gets on well with children and with one adult at a time but is not happy in groups supervised by adults. However, he does join in group activities and he belongs to Scouts. Michael is in a treatment centre which has helped a great deal with his emotional problems and the staff now feel he is ready to become part of a family. In school Michael is in Grade 5. He is average in intelligence but needs remedial help in some subjects. When Michael feels at ease with people, he is alert and interested and enthusiastic. He loves camping. Hockey is his favorite sport and his hobby is model cars. He is fond of all animals. Recently Michael visited a television studio and was fascinated by how the cameras work. In turn, the cameramen were impressed by how quickly he absorbed the intricacies of the complicated equipment. Michael needs parents who will want to give him much time and attention and who can be understanding and patient while he learns to trust them. To inquire about adopting Michael, please write to Today's Child, Ministry of Community and Social Services, Box 888, Station K, Toronto M4P 2H2. ABOVE AVERAGE AND ACTIVE
