No. 4 January 30, I974 I5¢ Per Copy TERRACE BAY COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council met in regular ses- sion on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Police Chief David Barnett ggve his report, and answered questions by the Councillors. Minutes were adopted as read. Business arising included a discussion about the steps which lead from Birchwood Terrace to lower Kenogami Road and thence to the hospital. These steps are in need of repair, being un- safe for use at this time. This property be- longs to Birchwood Terrace, Home for Senior Citizens, and will be looked at. Meanwhile, pedestrians are advised to avoid them. A letter from Holy Angels Separate School for monetary assistance with the planned Public Speaking contest was read, with Council agree- ing to make a donation of up to $25.00. Letters from St. John's Ambulance, the Men- tal Health Association of Ontario, and the Salvation Army, requesting assistance were re- viewed, and Council decided since Kimberly- Clark employees contribute to these organiza- tions in their Charity Fund, it was unfair to ask tax payers to pay again, and the letter writers will be so advised. A letter from the Terrace Bay Library Board requested permission to meet with Council and present®* their I974 budget estimates. This will be arranged. The Ministry of Social Services asked Coun- cil to submit a name to be elected to the Board of Management, Homes for the Aged. HOMES FOR THE AGED MEETING The Board of Management of the District of Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged met at Pine- wood Court on January 24th, I974. Present were the Chairman Mr. Fred Harness, Margaret Sideen, Joseph Morgan, Milton Vibert, Adminis- trator and Verna Peltonen, Bookkeeper. Seven Applications for residents were app- roved. Four people will be accommodated in the Birchwood Terrace Home, one in Pinewood Court and two will be placed on the waiting list until space is availabie. ; The new draft constitution for the District Boards was reviewed in detail and minor chang- es were recommended. The draft will be tabl- ed until next meeting. The constitution sets the guidelines for Board members and their responsibilities to senior citizens both in homes and the community. Board members Mr. J. Symington and Mr. J. Morgan were appointed to a Budget Committee to work with the Administrator and Bookkeeper on the I974 budget. Service clubs in the District are being approached to help with the purchase of Whirl- pool Baths in the both Homes. The Ladies Auxiliary to Pinewood Court are holding a dan- ce and social evening at the Kakabeka Falls Legion on Friday, February I5th. Proceeds will go towards the Wheelchair Bus Fund. Renovations at Birchwood Terrace are progr- essing. The elevator is presently being ins- talled. Ceiling tiles are being replaced with fireproof material and the new heating plant is now in operation. The Chairman Mr. Harness and Administrator Mr. Vibert were authorized to negotiate the heating agreement with the Township of Terrace continued page 7 .......
