{OVEMBER 28, 1973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 9 HOMES FOR THE AGED BOARD MEETING The District of Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged Board met at Pinewood Court on Thursday, November 22nd. The meeting began at 4:30 with a review of the Birchwood Terrace project with the architect and engineers. The regular Board meeting followed, beginning at 5:00 and ending at 8:00 when the Board met with the five western municipalities. It was a long day for the new chairman, Mr. Fred Harness, as his day began in Terrace Bay with a meeting of the Building Committee. The Terrace Bay project is progressing fav- orably with the elevator shaft to be completed by the end of November and the installation of the elevator in December. New boilers are now being connected up and the contractor reports that partial operation will begin in the midd- le of December. The Board authorized Barnett-McQueen to proceed with the letting of the electrical tender which deals with the fire safety equip- ment and the auxiliary generator. This went to Hacio Bros. at $75,000.00 which was the low --est of three bids. Dansan Contractors was awarded the ceiling contract at $41,000.00 which was the lower of two bids received. This tender completes the renovations that had been planned for this year. The regular Board business delt with rent- al of rooms to Imperial Optical for refracting and dispensing eye glasses. This service will benefit both the Home and the community. The McCausland Hospital Board requested in- formation in regards to the cost for the com- ing year for space being rented by them in the Home for Administration offices and the cost per meal being served to the hospital and the heating charges that will be met once the new plant is in operation. The Administrator was instructed to advise them that the costs would remain the same for the rental and meals and heating charges will be the engineer's estimate for the first three months, after which time more accurate costs will be estab- lished. The Board will enter into a heating agreement, which is now being drafted by the lawyer, with both the Hospital and Terrace Bay Municipal Council. The Board received a copy of the letter that the Minister, The Honorable Rene Brunelle had written to Mr. Stokes MLA which advised that the Township of Terrace Bay would receive a grant in lieu of taxes, however, all tena- tive portions of the Home would be taxable. The Board was very pleased to hear about this decision. The last item on the agenda was a complaint by one of the garage tenants. Be- cause of the construction, the garage was not accessible for part of the month and a request for a reduction in the rental fee was made by the tenant. continued page IO eee ess 0 va ONTARIO ASSESSMENT REVIEW COURT Noticeof Hearing TAKE NOTICE that the first sitting of the Assessment Review Court for the year 1973 for the LAKE SUPERIOR BOARD of EDUCATION in the District of THUNDER BAY will be held at Terrace Bay Council Chambers, 12 Simcoe Plaza, Terrace Bay Ontario on Wednesday, December 19, 1973 commencing at the hour of 9:00 a.m. Dated at Sault Ste.
